Sigh. I am back to frumpy.

A couple of years ago my mom gave me a jacket from Chico's. I actually really like it - it's a slightly metallic twill with black and burgundy beading and embroidery, but it's very subtle and looks nice with black pants, which is what I am wearing today. It is much less middle-aged than most Chico's clothing, I swear.

Today my coworker, who is about 8 years older than me and my CEO, who is 10 years older than me, are both wearing Chico's jackets that have the same burgundy color as the embroidery on mine. They are very excited that we all coordinate.

They both dress very nicely, but this is confirmation that I have moved into a different demographic.

  • If you like the way you look when you leave the house, don't stress yourself out by comparing yourself to what others are wearing (or not wearing) - who knows - maybe your CEO and coworker are congratulating themselves on looking so young and hip today?

  • I sympathize. It's OK. You could be worse. When I was still with the gov't I was in a uniform of black pants and a sweater every.single.day. My 50-something boss had more style than I did.

  • People older than me routinely dress more stylish than I do. I gave up trying to be stylish in 6th grade when I tried to get on that plaid-ties-on-females look.  I did not succeed & have happily played it safe since!

Are their jackets frumpy?  Or do they look nice?

  • I came to that conclusion a few years ago when I discovered Talbots and just how well their clothes fit me.  I don't care if they are designed for a more mature audience, they fit me and match my taste nicely.  I prefer not to use frumpy btw, because to me that means clothes that don't fit or weren't ironed.
