brush recommendations please

We have two shih-tzus and I'm looking for a recommendation for a brush for them.  I bought what i thought the vet recommended and it created static (I think I might have gotten the wrong one) .  I tried a few others with my last shih-tzu and never found one I really liked.

what would you use?

  • Here's a site <--clicky that gives great instruction on how and what to use to groom shih-tzus. Also if you do get static a great way to get rid of it (and this works with humans) is to take a new dryer and rub the dog (or person's head) with it. It difuses the static and makes the fur (hair) smelll good too :)

  • I would use a pin brush without the heads.  I love Chris Christensen brand brushes and have seen shih tzus at shows groomed with them as well.  They are expensive but worth it and last for a long time.  Also for the static, you want to brush a coat that has been misted with water or a diluted conditioner.  If you brush a dry coat, you can definitely get static, so try misting each area of the coat before you groom.  The article that the previous poster posted has the same advice and I agree with that area about grooming on the dog on their side.  It takes time to teach but it really helps grooming.
