Anyone have a steam mop?

Curious as to how much you like it, if its good on wood floors and with dogs?

Our swiffer isnt really cutting it anymore, Its OK but not really getting the floors clean.

Re: Anyone have a steam mop?

  • My husband asked for one for christmas last year (2010..).  seriously...a MAN...asked for a STEAM MOP for christmas!  He LOVES it.  I never use it, but he is like Mr. Clean when it comes to that thing.  The floors feel great after he is done too.

We got it after our dogs died, but I don't see why it woudl be a big deal....we have the Oreck one.

  • not a big fan of ours (shark) and was told to never ever use it on wood floors by my flooring guy - will always warp them over time. just bona and a microfiber mop
  • I use mine all the time, I have a HAAN one. It is the only thing I feel that gets my floor clean enough!

  • We also have the Shark and also do not use it on our hardwood floors - everything I read said that it can warp them (eventually). Ours are old floors so I'm not about to risk it. I use it on the ceramic tiles in our kitchen and bathrooms and it works well enough.

  • I bought the Haan steamer about 4 months ago.  With 3 dogs, our floors get so yucky.  I freaking LOVE this thing. Heats up within 30 seconds and picks up everything, including caked on mud.  I use it on tile and wood floors and no problems at all.  Comes with a carpet attachment as well.
  • I bought the Haan back at the beginning of the month. Out of the box, it didn't steam. I saw a couple of reviews that said the same thing but, overall, most love it.

I actually just ran out to get a steam mop this morning because I hate the mop I have. I got the Bissell Lift-Off. So far....I like it. It's heavy (compared to the shark) but there is no effort required (unlike the shark). I do like that aspect!

I had a shark and loved it...until it just stopped steaming. My mother-in-law, who recommended the shark when she got hers, had the same thing happen to her (it just stopped steaming).

There are so many reviews on Amazon, it's overwhelming.

    Good luck!

  • I have a Shark and like it (the constant pumping is a bit PITA) but I've been using it on our wood floors and recently read how bad it is over time.  Soooo my plan is to buy the Bona wetmop, read excellent things about it.  I'll still use the Shark on my tiled floors though.  Oh and you must vacuum before using it, I have 2 dogs and it won't pick up any hair.

  • I had the Shark and was not that impressed with it however I just recently got the Haan and it is fabulous!  Great on hard woods and tiles plus it has a carpet attachment that I haven't tried yet.
