Not just any dinner, but Table 21! We snagged reservations after someone canceled for (Top Chef's) Bryan Voltaggio's first restaurant. Table 21 is seated with a direct view of the kitchen and a 21 course tasting menu that changes each night, 8 people per night. It focuses on a seasonal and local (when possible) menu. We went two years ago for our anniversary in August and got sweet corn, blue crab, tomatoes galore. Ever since then we've wanted to go back for a fall/winter experience as well. I'm so excited! We can expect to get mini versions of everything on this menu. Yay! This has been a super crappy month and I'm looking forward to putting it behind us and starting March and spring off fresh!
Re: AW: Dinner at VOLT tonight!

Neat! DH works at Fort Detrick, so he's there everyday, ha. We go up maybe once a month or every other month, often to visit Flying Dog, which is tons of fun. We like to walk around town too and hit up all the little shops.

Thanks! You mean the listing of flavors/ingredients and not more detailed descriptions?

yes. I am sometimes amused at what places do to be different/edgy/modern, etc. :-)
That whole area has become so awesome in the last few years. Makes me wish I still lived there. Can't wait to hear your impressions of the meal!

That's what we thought the first time, but it's a 2.5 to 3 hour experience, so it's definitely spaced out. And the courses are about 2-3 bites each. Some with a bigger protein might stretch to 5 bites, but generally they are mini versions of regular dishes.
There are only two things I'm not looking forward to -- the lamb dish, I don't do lamb and have only had it once before, at our previous Table 21 meal. And the banana dessert. Both DH and I hate, hate, hate bananas. But, I will eat it anyway, maybe Bryan can change my mind! Our last meal there is when I had raw tuna for the first time and now I can't get enough of spicy tuna rolls or tuna tartare!

Our menus from two years ago are the same way, so it's not a new thing for them at least. Our menus from Graham Eliot were that way too, and I know Alinea does it that way as well, so I think it's just a modern gastronomy thing. Flavors instead of dishes or preparations. Last time they sent us home with blueberry muffins from Table 21 and when we went for brunch for my bday we got sent home with granola, so I'm curious to see what we will get this time!
