Petty Work Whine

So I guess one of the coworkers in my department had her birthday on Saturday, and right now the rest of my department is having a belated birthday party for her in one of the conference rooms.  They asked me to sign a card for her this morning.

My birthday was yesterday and not a single coworker remembered Crying and this is just icing on the cake.

  • I'm sorry! I think work birthdays suck. Someone always gets left out.

I use to set up birthday meetings for my old office. Birthday person got choice of treats and we'd all meet for about 1/2 hour. My birthday came and nothing, none of the partners had thought of it. My parents sent flowers to my office - which was super sweet. There was all the "Oh your husband must be in trouble.." type comments and then someone noticed the card. I was told that the next year I should plan my own.

  • Thanks for all your sympathy ladies!  I would say something about it, but there isn't really any way to do it w/o being totally awkward.  Maybe whenever they offer me the leftover cake scraps I'll mention something about already having had b-day cake yesterday Devil

  • That really sucks. :( Does this girl go around telling people when her birthday is? Or are they friends with her on facebook? Maybe that's how they remembered or knew?

I really hate when things like that happen though, esp. at work. That's why I think works should just have like a 'birthday' day at the beginning of each month to cover everyone without specifically mentioning names unless you want to be recognized.

  • To f/u:  I got a piece of the birthday cake (the secretary is always last to receive anything around here), and mentioned how I ate b-day cake yesterday.  My manager asked me whose birthday it was, and I told her mine.  She had the BIGGEST guilty look, and 10 min later I received a quickly signed b-day card from the stock she keeps.

Now everyone on my team is walking up and apologizing....
