Purses poll - What are you using?

I'm curious! What do you use?

Confession: In the last 10 years, I have used (and continue to) 3 bags. A beat-up canvas tote from jcrew, a beat-up, nearly destroyed, got-me-through-Thailand/Malaysia/Japan canvas messenger bag that I can't bear to part with and a leather cross-body bag that's splitting in places.

It's time, I think, for a new purse. I don't like using more than one purse at a time, so I'm thinking it might be a good idea to get a diaper bag now... which, of course, means I'd rather it didn't look like a diaper bag. Any suggestions?

Re: Purses poll - What are you using?

  • I'm using the Anne Klein purse that chicha got me for SS! It's amazing, has a divided interior so I can separate baby stuff and my stuff (although baby stuff often ends up filling the whole bag anyway haha), and I get so many compliments on it.

  • I am currently carrying a Kate Spade bag that Dh got me for Christmas.

It looks like this. It's really great because it has 2 large compartments separated by a zippered compartment. For once in my life I am not searching for everything.

I carried a bright pink leather hobo bag for awhile it was cute but had no structure so everything rattled around in it.So i was always fishing for things. Lesson learned I like structure.

Before that I carried a coach messenger bag. That I think was originally intended to be a baby bag. I don't have babies but it seemed that it would be impractical to tote baby things in. It held a laptop fine though. It had no room for things that I think Moms carry, toys, diapers, bottles etc.

  • I have a coach wristlet and a timbuk2 bag that I love.  I have other purses in varying sizes that I will use when I need to carry less then my messenger bag.  One of my friends uses her timbuk2 bag for a baby bag and she loves it (so does her DH) because it fits so much and it doesn't look like a diaper bag.

ETA: I saw your part about the diaper bag substitute. I think when I have a baby, I will probably use an LV Damier Neverfull.

  • I highly recommend the Roots line of leather purses.  They are such good quality.  I've got one that I can't find a picture of online that I love.  Derek got it for me for my birthday 3 years ago and it's still going strong.

The only down is that it's mostly just open on the inside, so it's hard to find things sometimes.

Re: diaper bags, I've heard really good things about the Skip Hop bags, this one in particular looks much less "diaper bag"-ish.

  • No experience with diaper bags.

I finally broke down and bought a nice B. Makowsky purse from Nordstrom Rack. The purse can handle my wallet, small makeup bag and my iPad for everyday use, but I still carry a canvas tote to work about 50% of the time for bringing lunch and stuff.

  • I didn't use diaper bags. I just went to payless and bought 2 big bags. (There was a BOGO sale) One is a zebra print with a red handle that Russ even walked around with, the other one was a big purple bag that had more compartments and pockets. I love them, especially when going on over night trips. Right now I'm using a Gucci bag that Russ got me for Christmas. I love it to death, if I wasn't married already, I'd marry that purse. After the kids were a little older and only pullups and wipes were needed, I switched over to a small back pack. That way the boys could carry it for me hahaha. It actually worked out really well, just throw what I needed in and grab a few toys and snacks and good to go. It helped that it was a Lightning McQueen backpack so the kids always wanted to carry it around.
  • I carry a fitted skirt purse, which I love because you can change the outside without having to move everything and leaving something important in your other purse.

Because I commute, I also carry the Cindy Tote.  It will hold my purse or lunch and umbrella, files, Kindle and all that other stuff you carry.

  • I am still using my little Coach purse, however I really need something bigger.  When the boys are with me, I put my wallet in their backpack diaper back.  Not exactly fashionable, but it works.  I really need to splurge for a new one in the next month or so because the one I have just isn't big enough.

  • Well since I just got a new bag, I obviously have to pimp it out. Sorry for the picture overload.

Here you can see how it looks when I carry it. A little dark/blurry - sorry.

Here is the outside of the bag, closer up (and my lovely office carpet):

And here is the inside, because I love the liner:

  • Amie, that bag is adorable! Who makes it?  I'm a total addicted to bags--it's without a doubt the one accessory I am always buying.  I'm currently carrying a medium sized Kate Spade.  It sounds a lot like Eva's, with excellent pockets, but is a bit slouchier looking.  I've been carrying this one for most of the winter, but once spring and summer hit, I usually change up my bag weekly.  I can't wait for it to get warmer so I can break out my new favorite, which I bought last summer from Coach.  Unfortunately, I'm not finding pics of either at the moment.

A friend of mine recently started a customize-your-own purse business. She designs the shapes of the bags and then you can choose your own leather and lining. Her company is called Darlington Originals.
