Something I learned last night

Last night was breast feeding group.

I never realized that with the help of a lactation consultant and drugs, an adoptive mother can breast feed. It sounded like there had to be a formula or donated supplement but still...isn't that amazing??

  • that is awesome.  I had never thought about that before.

  • That is pretty neat!

I remember hearing in class once that some gay fathers will do something similar because they both want to be involved in parenting their baby. Intellectually, I think that's awesome, but I think my eyes would compute something being very "off" with that picture if I ever saw it!

  • There was a woman in our group that was an adoptive mother and breastfed. She started taking a lot of the herbal remedies etc, before the child was born and went gungho afterwards. It was a long road but she was doing better than I was doing at the 3 month mark!
  • I saw a blog or something a few months ago that documented a woman who had her friend as a surrogate. It showed a picture of the baby being born and then the adopted mother nursing-- it was awesome. I can't remember where i saw it.
  • look up the "milkmen" video on youtube to learn about men who bf.  It's funny stuff.

I originally saw the blog post, but couldn't find the original link.  Click through all the pages, it's worth it.  Page 14 is the photo that gets me everytime. Absolutely amazing.

Yes! I think it was on the photographer's blog.

  • I have heard this, but I've never known anyone personally who has done it.  It must be an amazingly wonderful experience.
