Bootcamp class at a gym? Give me the details.

My gym offers a Bootcamp class. It's obviously not a "flip 500 lb tires" kind of thing since it's in the aerobic room so I'm curious. I also have major hip issues which is why I haven't attempted it yet. However, I'm very, very tempted. So, if you've done one in the confines of an aerobic room.....what does it consist of? Thanks!

  • I teach one :)

Basically its a mix of intense cardio and weight training. Basically whatever I feel like doing LOL. Sometimes I set up a circuit, othertimes I do timed intervals between cardio and strength, and others I rotate between a cardio set, legs set, upper body set, etc. In my class the last 15 minutes is all abs.

  •  I was sore for three days and I just did it last week. It was mainly various dumbbell exercises along w various squats. Ab work. Lunges, throwing a heavy rope around, cardio bursts, etc. each exercise was for one minute and then you move onto another. It's great. Do it.

Is it a lot of stress on the joints? I'm afraid of starting and having to walk out of there with my tail between my legs. I just picture a lot of jumping around. lol.

I always give low impact options for anything that involves jumping...any good instructor should do the same. But yes, there are usually a lot of high impact stuff involved in a boot camp.

I would go a little early and talk to the instructor about your particular issue and see what he/she says

  • I take one twice a week. It's a mix of cardio and weights. We do high knees, jogging in place, jumping jacks, some kickboxing, free weights, lunges, squats, etc. The instructor always offers a lot of modifications which I use some because of knee issues.

    Give it a try!
