i'm an idiot- I still can't figure out itunes

Its on my ipad, but I don't want to buy music- I want to add music from my computer. All it keeps doing is trying to get me to buy music. I looked it up on the apple website and it says "open itunes, From the File menu choose Windows add file to Library"

Where is file and library on the itunes? I'm lost. Thanks

  • is your computer an Apple computer? if it is, open up iTunes on both your computer and iPad and you should be able to see your computers iTunes on your iPad... then click and drag the songs you want on your iPad iTunes.

    Hope that helps.

  • no its not an apple computer. Ugh, I can't figure this out. I give up for tonight!

  • my husband thinks you can't share music between a Windows computer and a Apple iPad. try looking up home sharing forums between Windows and Apple, but he believes this can't be done. good luck.

I know how you feel.  I have an external hard drive with a ridiculous amount of music on it.  iTunes is a *** every time I try to add to my iPod.  I'll play around with it tomorrow to try to refresh my memory and get back to you.  All I can say is that it's never easy.

  • All you need to do is download iTunes for free on your computer (doesn't matter what kind you have).  Put all music on iTunes in playlists.  Plug iPad into computer with USB and sync.  Voila!
  • You have to make sure that all the music that's in your computer is in your iTunes library.  Did you download iTunes to your pc?  It will ask you if you want iTunes to be your default player.  If you have an iPad, it required you to link it to an iTunes account when you first used it, or else it would not have let you use the iPad at all.  Therefore you already have an iTunes acct.  So when you load it on to your pc it will ask you if you want to create a new ID or use an existing one.  You seem to have an existing one, since you have an iPad.  Connect your pad to your pc once iTunes is loaded & it will sync your music to your iPad.  From there, the menu on the left, you can choose what to move in and out of your iPad.  The iPad will work just like the iPod.
  • ah ok- so itunes has to be on the computer first. Thanks!

I'll try that tomorrow! I'll let you know how I make out.
