Humping?

I've never dealt with a humping dog before but how do I get my newly neutered Dapper to quit humping his "brother"? Cocoa looks at me like "WTH Mom???" I've had to tell Dapper to quit/push him off at least a dozen times tonight.

Re: Humping?

  • Its just dominance. Just keep doing what you are doing & eventually he'll stop. Its a PITA, but, there's really nothing you can do about it! If you get overly annoyed, just separate them for awhile, Im sure Cocoa will appreciate the break! Lol

    GL!

  • We have had to break up B humping SB. SB just takes it. It's been a while since we've seen it...

  • It's not always dominance. My lab humps when he is anxious/stressed.

Also, since he was just recently neutered, it may be that the hormones are still working their way out of his system. Interrupt and redirect the behavior, then praise if he takes the redirection.

  • My older female pup humps the younger one. Heidi doesn't seem to like it and tries to get away, but doesn't ever, ever fight back.

I have to give it to lauren, though, she is a pretty laid back big sister. Lets little sister chew on her ears, take her toys, wrestle with her even when she doesn't want to, but then she gets fed up (or hyped up) and humps. I redirect and she stops. It happens maybe once a month or so.

Right now Heidi is having the most insane case of the zoomies, I'm just waiting for Lauren to put her back in her place ;)

  • In most cases it is dominance. You have to keep up on stopping him, and show that you are the dominant one there, and he is to listen to you when you say stop. Like I said, just keep up on it, and it should stop. GL
