When did you start solids with your baby?
With L I think we tried at 4.5 months and she wasn't interested so we waited till 5.5 months and she was into it. With A I feel like she is drinking a lot of ounces and still waking once or twice at night to eat and draining the bottles. I know that cereal supposedly doesn't help with sleeping but I wonder if it will help with her hunger. She is a bit bigger than L was at this age. I am not sure if she is interested in eating, she isn't showing signs. What did everyone else do and what were the reasons? .
Re: When did you start solids with your baby?
A is a happy spitter too. I was going to switch her formula because of it but I'm thinking food may help.
I did no solids at all until 6 mo. If he was hungry I BF'd and gave formula.
Ditto. Even at 6 months we still never gave cereal.
Why no cereal? Your the second person I heard say that this week but I wasn't sure why people would skip that. Not being judgy, I had just never heard of people skipping cereal and now I'm wondering if I missed something! L isn't ready for solids yet but I'm a researcher lol.

Olivia started cereals at 2 months...she has a small stomach and wasn't really napping...you would feed her burp her put her down and 10 minutes later she was hungry again...so her pediatrician recommended doing cereal for breakfast and again for dinner. That definitely helped.
At 3 months we started fruits since she had really bad gas even with mylicon 3 times a day...so the pediatrician told me to feed her peaches at lunch since it was a natural gas reliever. Not sure if it is or not...but it definitely helped since the nightly gas pain screams stopped.
At 4 months we started veggies since she was doing well with the fruits. I really didn't start meats, etc until way later since she didn't seem too interested in them and she was thriving with just veggies & fruits (and formula of course). Every kid is different.
this was santino too. i tried at least a few times a week from when he was about 4.5 months old and then finally at about 6 months old, he was finally digging the oatmeal.
if you feel like she is hungry and it could help, go for it. she might surprise you!
I was trying really hard with BF, I read kellymom.com and it gave tons of reasons not to start solids til 6 months that made sense to me. http://www.kellymom.com/
And I just never understood the rush. I don't know- I assumed babies eat every 3 hours or so- I want to eat every 3 hours. I wasn't surprised by this or trying to change it. Since i was also told by the ped that "under one it's just for fun" and they're not really getting their nutrients from food, I didn't see the point of trying to get him to eat food. That was just one more thing to do that didn't seem necessary. I wasn't in a hurry for him to eat, crawl, walk, etc.
to answer your no cereal question, a lot of people skip it because it really has no nutritional value (although my ped will say it has iron and they need iron.. whatever). there are better foods you can give as a first food, like sweet potato or avocado or applesauce. depends on what your baby likes and what your baby can handle. we tried avocado and he choked on it and i didnt give it to him again until a couple weeks ago (he will be one on monday).
santino never liked rice, and the couple of times we snuck it in there he got horribly constipated. he did much better with oatmeal and barley. we never gave him a lot of cereal- maybe 2-3 tablespoons a day at the MOST, and that was after a few months even just to thicken up fruits and yogurt. we worked up to it from about a tablespoon a day in the beginning.
4.5 months.
We had planned on waiting till 6 months, but he got a virus & had bad diarrhea & lost a significant amount of weight, so the pedi had use start rice cereal mixed w/ BM & banana puree.
