1st day of March Randoms

Happy March all!!

I started my day with a mini egg, cheese and turkey bacon croissant and a small small glass of OJ.

I'm hoping to get to the gym again today. I did to get back in a routine for that place. I've seen swimsuits in the stores and this body isn't ready to be rockin a suit just yet.

Re: 1st day of March Randoms

  • Deeder, your breakfast sounds great!  I'm currently enjoying a green monster smoothie.
  • I wish I could do more smoothies. I can't get past taste and texture. I can't drink something green heck i can barely eat something that is green. I've made smoothies in the past put I add OJ instead of dairy. Although recently I did pick up something new by Silk and used that inlace of the OJ and it turned out ok.

Kasa You should stop by on your way to work and pick one up. :)

  • I only put dairy in mine about half the time.  I didn't today.  Instead I used half coconut water and half regular water for the liquid.
  • Interesting smoothy talk.  I need to eat more fruits and vegetables.  Maybe I should start making these shakes instead of eating cereal in the morning.  I have spinach at home already, and could pick up some bananas on my way home for tomorrow.  I need to start eating healthier.

  • Morning ladies.

March is here. Wow. I'm happy for it though. MMM breakfast. I had water, and now coffee. My stomach did not like me after kickboxing last night. Haven't been able to eat since then. I hope it goes away by tomorrow. I'm just tolerating the coffee. That makes me sad because I need a pick me up today.

I had a chat with the executive director of Hello West MI last night. She's so nice and helpful. They are having a recruiting event on the 20th ( if anyone is looking or knows someone looking I can give you the details) and of course I can't go, but since a lot of their partner companies will be there, they are letting B go for me and get my info out. Yay! Fingers crossed for that!

Care to share some smoothie recipes?

  • Mmm now I want a smoothie - I often use fruit juice instead of dairy in my green monsters.  Unless I make the PB and banana one :)

  • If I were to use frozen fruit would I still have to use ice in the smoothies?

    Me tooooo!

I do kind of hate how time is flying with Renee!  She's getting so big so fast!  I'm enjoying every moment.

  • Cute!  There is some dried snot on my shirt that I just noticed.  T was snuggling with me, while crying and shoving his face into me.  Nice little souvenir from this morning.  Heh.  I miss him.

Can I go on a little republican rant about wah wah wah people on Medi-whatever get free prescriptions while I work my a$$ off and have to pay out the a$$ for mine.  Ok, I'm over it.  /End rant.

I am *so* sore from painting the new house last night.  Embarrassed  I really need to start moving more.  My legs huuuuurt.

Deeder your breakfast sounds delicious.  I'm about to eat some mini-doughnuts and grape juice.

  • Happy March!

    Deeder, your breakfast sounds delish.

I enjoyed a green monster on Monday.  Wop - I don't use ice if I'm using frozen fruit unless it's a banana (which it usually is).  Then I only add a cube or two.  I like the creamy consistency a frozen banana gives the smoothie.  My recipe is as follows:

    1 T. ground flax seed

    1/3 cup raw oats

    1/2 cup milk

I put that in my blender and into the fridge and let it set for at least an hour (up to overnight).

Then I add a frozen banana, ice cube or two, a bunch of spinach (a cup and a half, two cups maybe?) and a little more milk to get the blender going.  It's delicious. :-)

  • Lucky for my baby and my wasteline, there were no mini doughnuts in the vending machine.  Nurtri-Grain bar instead.

Kind of made me laugh. I've been looking and looking and looking for medical coverage and can't find anything affordable. Last year we spent $1200 on medical cost for just the 2 of us and that doesn't even meet the deductibles for the plans I'm finding.   I have found dental and vision coverage and will be sign up for that.

SS son it on Medicare. His Rx is free but won't allow generics. The govt likes to pay full cost instead of saving money.

  • My new slippers are suppose to arrive today. Yay!!

As always, there are many people that need it and qualify for it.  I have no problem with those people.

And then there are the lovely few exceptions that abuse the system and make my blood boil.  I personally know a few.

I think doing this to set overnight is the route I would go.  The less I have to do in the morning the better.

Dumb question: where do I get flax seed?

I bought mine at Harvest Health Foods but I have seen it at Meijer.  I just grind it in my coffee bean grinder.  The flax only really adds nutritional value (Omega 3's) and can help add a thickness to the milk/oat mixture - so you could easily go without it too.

  • Wop, I think I found my flax seed in the baking aisle -- like by the flour and bread crumbs and that kind of stuff.  I think.  It was awhile ago.

I do add two or three ice cubes, even when I use frozen fruit.  You don't have to though.

My smoothies are spinach + banana + another fruit + flax seed + ice.  Then, I combine it with either water, coconut water, or milk.  And I usually add a bit of honey to sweeten.  And sometimes vanilla.

This website has a lot of recipes: http://greenmonstermovement.com/?page_id=39.

And this site has a really handy storage idea.  You make a big batch using all of the ingredients except the ice and liquid (use enough so that it will blend, though) and then pour it into muffin tines, freeze, pop them out and store in the freezer.  Then, when you want a smoothie, you just blend a couple of the little frozen things with some liquid.  It makes it much easier for the mornings!

    What?!  Really?!  Wow.

  • I think that folks who are new to the smoothie thing (especially the green variety) might like to add some berries or other kind of fruit to Juli's recipe, too.

WOP, flax seeds can be found at a normal grocery store now, in the grains area.  I think the brand that has that display box of their bagged grains is Hodgsdon Mill.  You can also pick up flax at health food stores.

There has to be a logical explanation for this, right government?  Hmm

The prescription T uses that has increased in cost 5-fold for me doesn't offer a generic version yet.  I'm curious how much this prescription would cost without insurance.  It can't be much more than I'm paying...

  • I forgot to add, I often put yogurt in my smoothies for protein.  And, I make a whole blender full every time.  Usually there's at least 1 small person who wants some, but I take the leftovers and freeze them in cups another time.

Mol it should tell you to cost or at least the cost difference on the RX packet that you get from the pharmacy.

SS's Adderall, which he doesn't need as much now, cost $281 I believe.

Yup, found it.  Insurance is "saving" me $60/month.

Deeder, I obviously don't know your experience, but this , as a blanket statement, is not true.  Does his coverage not cover all generics, or is it just the ADD generic med?  And there are considerations when in the so-called donut hole.  It might also be the particular insurance company that you have your plan with.

I'm not picking on you, Deeder.  I just want to get this info out there.

    http://www.medicare.gov/publications/pubs/pdf/11109.pdf

This is similar to the publication I worked from when helping my old clients with their questions.  From this pub: "

Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D) adds to your Medicare health care coverage. It helps you pay for both brand-name and generic drugs. Medicare drug plans are offered by insurance companies and other private companies approved by Medicare. "

  • No worries I didn't feel anyone picked. His coverage is through Priority Medicade (I miss typed before). So far the only co pay for anything is for his glasses.
  • Is it time to go home yet?  I really don't feel like being at work.
