If your city is chosen as the host city for a potential G2G, I wanted to be clear that nobody is obligated to be full out host, as in opening your home to everyone and bending over backwards to accommodate folks.
Anyone who would be going to this will have options of splitting rooms and/or hopefully finding a discount rate of some sort to help cut down costs. All festivities are assumed to be out in public places and and the "host" who lives there is mostly expected to help be the guide and make sure we know where we are going, giving suggestions of budget and group friendly places to hang, and that kind of stuff.
Maybe a trip to pick folks up from the airports is also helpful, but there are ways for some of us to arrange arrival/departure times in close range to try and combine carpools, if needed.
In my experience with my "other board" and our annual meetups, it is easier when someone lives in the city we choose, but we have also done trips to towns that were unfamiliar to all of us. It was fun either way, we just did a little more wandering around rather than having a set plan of places to hit up.
Just some food for thought! I am happy if so many of you are truly interested in committing to a meetup, and I certainly don't want to be the head organizer of this, but will certainly help push along some plans and feedback for those who are serious about it!
Re: G2G "hosting"
Too late, E-planner
If I hosted a GTG it would just be a whole lotta outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, etc! It would def be on the inexpensive side- nothing is that expensive in Ohio. J and I stayed in a 900sf two-story suite for our anniversary and it cost $169!

Is this because of my reply?
I would totally act as tour guide, and I would even love to be able to cook for/entertain everyone at my place, but I don't really like having houseguests. When I get up in the morning, I want to be able to walk to the bathroom without pants on! lol Plus, I am a huge biitch in the am.
Other than that, I would be thrilled to be able to attend a g2g without traveling!
teehee, kind of! I just didn't want anyone to think they are being obligated into anything they aren't comfortable with and the cities picked weren't intended to make anyone automatically "in charge" just because they live there.
On the other hand, if anyone is just dying to host and wants to do the persuading on why we should pick one place over the other, I'd love to hear the enthusiasm about why!
I love wine tours!
Well, I must say I actually do enjoy being "in charge". lol
I could "host" a G2G around here if anyone wants to go to the beach.
ETA: But I'm still kind of a newb so it might be weird if I were at a G2G. No?

It depends on if you stick around or not! Where do you live?
Alabama Gulf Coast (Mobile). Smack in the middle between New Orleans and Panama City. Within a 1-hour drive of my apartment there are like 5 major beaches (including an island), more restaurants and malls and theaters and museums than I could count, and two sets of casinos (both in Biloxi and on the Creek Indian reservation). Another hour or two out and you've got New Orleans.
ETA: Though I have to say we were much more interesting 2 weeks ago during Mardi Gras, lol.

A few of us are considering New Orleans in 2013.
Newbies are of course welcome to join in, but for ease of getting around I think we are looking for a big city that most can fly directly into and won't need rental cars and such. I do like me some Florida beaches, though, so it's not a bad choice!
I drive through mobile everytime we go to gulfshores.
I would totally be there for a NOLA G2G!
And if we were to have a G2G around here, I would actually probably want to have it in Gulf Shores or something as opposed to Mobile proper. But then again, the airport is in Mobile proper and we'd all have to drive down to the beach anyway, haha. So yeah, it's not the best choice if you're looking to go sans rental car. We're not a very pedestiran friendly area.
