I have good strong nails but I think this would be a good option so that my nailpolish isn't always chipping after a manicure. Does this ruin your nails? I know this has been asked before but I never read the posts and search on here stinks.
Thanks
Re: OPI/Shellac manicure
sadly for me it did. i loved it- i was able to get almost 3 weeks out of a manicure before i really felt like i needed another. they never chipped, never broke, always looked nice.
but when i decided that the expense wasnt worth it (i would rather get a massage every 2-3 months for what it would cost me to keep up with my nails), i took them off. my nails were thin and sharp underneath when before the OPI they were strong, thick, and so so healthy.
but now that i am reminiscing, i miss my nicely manicured OPI nails LOL
man, you cant win.
My best friend had the same experience. She switched to the OPI Shellac manicure and likes it much more. I'm too scarred to try it.
Shellac is supposed to be better then OPI for your nails. There is a third option my lady gave me but I can't remember the name. I stopped getting it done. because my nails were really soft. BUT that is because once they start chipping i would try to rip them off instead of soak them! I usually just get a manicure but that only lasts a couple of days. I haven't gotten them done in a long time like that. I am not huge on color nail polish on my nails and like the natural look So i usually just put clear on.
Now if they had OPI or Shellac for the toes I would totally do it! ha ha ha! Love getting pedi's!
I'd recommend Shellac but not OPI. The Sehllac just peels right off when you soak in acetone for 10 mins (I just put it on cotton balls on my nails and wrap them with tin foil so I don't have my whole hand in a bowl of acetone). When I had OPI they had to use the drill to get it off and that can't be good for your nails
Also, make sure you go to a good salon and they DO NOT mix products. I had Shellac polish once and they put OPI on top and it was a nightmare.
I have very strong nails and decided to do it to finally have a lasting manicure. It destroyed my nails. They started to peel and bend after my second application. They hurt to touch. I'll never do it again. I do LCN's off and on and I have them on now- never ruined my nails the way the shellac did. Some people love it- I wont ever go near it.
ETA- It was the OPI
I was at the salon this morning and 2 women had it done while I was there. I personally wouldn't do it - especially after seeing their nails "naked".
when I went to pick up Bella at school one of the moms there told me she'd never do it again either...her nails were also ruined after she had it done.
