Today is my first day back to work.
I have a private area to pump, but there's no freaking lock on the door!!!
I just have to whip out my boobs and hope everyone reads the 'do not disturb' sign I put up. *fingers crossed*
Do you think I should ask for a lock to be put on the door?

*Question* how many people are at your company? Is word of mouth to respect your sign not enough security? And how many other people may or may not be using this room?
I was able to use a conference room at my office, and there wasn't a lock, and I had a Do Not Disturb sign up... I never had a problem. It never occurred to me that I needed to ask for a lock either, and honestly, I felt it was a little presumptuous of my to ask it of my boss to make a change solely for me when there were, at the most, only 6 of us on the office at one time, especially if I was only going to be pumping for a few months.
But hey, if you think asking for a lock for your use will be well-received, I say go for it!

It's one of those pocket style doors, so there's no way to block it really. I put in a request for a lock, but we'll see.
MB: There's about 100 people, but it's mostly men, so it would be super awkward if I were to get walked in on.
It's a small conference room, but only gets used occassionaly - like when the physical therapist or nurse are doing company consults. Or when the big wigs are doing interviews.
First off, good luck back at work!
And yeah, I would definitely ask. At my company, HR really monitors "mothers rooms". They have to approve any space that will be used for nursing, and have been known to deny certain spaces because they are not private enough, etc. I guess I'm just saying if anyone gives you a hard time, you could follow-up with HR to see if there are any policies in place. You have a right to be comfortable!
Ditto. We have a special room with big comfy chairs, individual refrigerators, and it is locked and only people who need it are given access (nursing moms and HR staff basically).
Also, if you company has more than 50 people, they're required to give you the private space, so don't be afraid to ask for it.
