How do you display your china?

We're getting our china cabinet on Saturday and I have 12 place settings to put inside. How do you store yours inside the cabinet? Do you display one and put the other 11 underneath in storage protectors? Display all 12? Stack the plates?

I'm so afraid of something getting broken! We also have a lot of crystal to fit in there as well.

Re: How do you display your china?

  • The actual place settings are in the cabinet. Some servingpieces, a platter, bowls, gravy boat and salt and pepper are on the display shelves. But we have our Waterford wine and water glasses displayed and candles sticks etc. Ours are just stacked below.

The christmas china we have is stored in those stoarge things and in the attic. They are handy, we got them at the Container Store.

  • I have two place settings displayed, for balance, a platter, and things like the gravy boat, salt and pepper shakers, sugar bowl, and creamer.  I also have my vegetable tureen in there.  But, I have no good crystal, so, I had room.  I also have candlesticks, some kiddush cups (jewish thing), our toasting flutes, and some other random pieces in there (waterford bowl, tiffany pitcher, special cordial glasses).

The rest of the china is stacked below.

  • my china is actually stored below.  in the display above, i have all of my waterford crystal - glasses, goblets, and some other bowl thing that i "had"  to have, my depression glasses, pieces from my grandmother's tea set, and my grandmother's espresso set, our unity candle holder and toasting glasses from our wedding (these may get put away though bc its getting kind of cramped in there)
  • I have all of my china stacked on the shelves in the hutch.  I have lace doilies in between each plate and bowl.  I have an equal number on each side of the cabinet.  I have my lenox, silver and wine glasses in there as well.

  • i have all my settings displayed along w/ all my crystal and other smaller pieces
  • All the settings are in protectors in the bottom. The serving dishes are in the display section

  • I have large black charger plates set up along the plate ledge in the rear of the cabinet (x8). I don't display place settings. They are all in china savers in teh cabinet drawers. I display a number o serving pieces - a tureen, all my Waterford (service for 12 in glasses - hock, goblet and flute as well as pitchers, salt and peppers, bowls and other assorted pieces) a covered vegetable bowl, a silver bowl, crystal candle sticks, Liam's gngraved baby cup and other silver mementos.
  • I have all our place settings displayed along with the crystal.  I then have serving pieces, our silver and a few other random pieces stored in the cabinets below.

  • in a bin in the attic!!!

ha! since we moved here into the apartment i have no place to put it! we used to have a tall book shelf type thing and i would display some of my fancy plates like maybe 1 on every other shelft there about 6 shelves. i would use those plate stand holders.  then everything else was stacked

  • i only have a small display area. so i have one setting displayed as well as my grandmothers tea set and our champagne flutes and two of our nice wine glasses all on displayin the cabinet

i store everything in our buffett in china protectors with either a paper plate dividing each plate stacked or a napkin (to avoid scratching ect)

i LOVE my china and its discontinued so i treasure it

  • I have all my china in the display part, with two setting on "racks" in there and the rest stacked up with inserts between them.  I also have some serving pieces and my fancy wine glasses, champagne flutes, and water glasses (NEVER USED) displayed.  The storage part holds tablecloths and less-fancy serving pieces.

I LOVE my china cabinet - not the look of it (it was MH grandmother's, we didn't choose it and it's not what I would have chosen at all) but the idea of displaying the china. . . LOVE.

  • We have all our crystal on the top shelf.  On the middle shelf, I have two place settings on the left and right displayed (using some sort of acrylic place setting display thing), then two dinner plates across the back in the middle on the plate slot.  In front of those are things like the sugar/creamer, vegetable bowl, etc.  Bottom shelf is for more serving pieces.  The rest of our china is stored on the cabinet portion.

  • Thank you! I'll report back how I end up storing it depending on what fits where. Thanks again for the ideas.
  • This is definitely a difficult question to answer. I would honestly just do whatever is comfortable for you! I would put all the plates beside where everyone is sitting.

However, I would also maybe use a buffet type setting. I would personally use a tureen. They always keep everything neat, and on top of that, they are great dinner conversation starters :):)
