So, FYI, interstitial cystitis fuuucking sucks.
Her flare ups are pretty close together (it's been about two months since the last one--closer than they were before), so the vet wants to try cortisone shots instead of pain meds to "reset" the issue. We're also going to try the Cosequin supplement KatiesCats recommended. Beyond that, no one know WTH else to do for her. So hopefully this works, because I hate that she's in pain. I hate pee all over my house too, but mostly the pain thing.
And with every vet visit I just want to kidney punch her former owners more and more. I realize that's probably not healthy.

Re: Penny/vet update. AKA: The Great Pee Incident of 2010, cont.
Poor kitty! I have my fingers crossed for her!
In the meantime, maybe you should get waterproof blanket for your H?
I'm seriously considering just wrapping the whole house in tarps. I can totally see DH in a tarp.
(I am only partially joking).

We now have 3 soft surfaces in the house. DS's bed, our bed, and the couch. No carpet, no padded chairs, nothing.
We just bought waterproof mattress pads for the couch, and wrapped them around the actual cushions and put the pretty cushion cover on top of it. So if they pee it just gets on the cover, not the actual cushion.
Not going to keep her from pee'ing on DH.... but he's washable!
Yeah, we have our bed, the couch, and dog blankets instead of beds because blankets are easier to wash when she pees on them. Plus the dogs never used their beds.
If the cortisone shot works, we're looking at a $20 shot every few months, so that's not bad at all. If only it would be that simple (and cheap!) to fix. lol
