WABB 97.5, which was on the air from Feb. 1973 until last night playing Top 40, has gone off the air. They signed off at midnight. They were bought and that frequency now broadcasts national Contemporary Christian mega-station K-LOVE. WABB was one of the last locally owned and operated radio stations in the country, and they were awesome. I didn't really know what to listen to on my way to work this morning! I guess I just feel sad about it.
And to make matters worse, one of the few remaining locally owned and operated stations in the country is Power88, the Contemporary Christian station that's been here since 1992. So now they have direct competition in the form of K-LOVE!
It's as if WalMart has come to town and put all the farmer's markets out of business.
Re: My favorite radio station is gone
It's amazing how attached we get to things like this, and how affected we are by changes.
I was so sad when one of my favorite DJs that I listened to growing up signed off the air.
What a bummer. That's a great run, though! Sorry you have a radio void to fill, that stinks.
