Attention, mamas! Join The Bump and AMC Theaters for Bring Your Baby Matinees on the first Tuesday of every month at a theater near you.
On Tuesday, March 6 at noon, we will be showing The Vow.
Catch the latest blockbuster and spend a fun day out with parents like you in a breastfeeding-friendly atmosphere, a theater with brighter lights and lower volume, a stress-free environment, stroller parking, and crying babies allowed!
----------------------
My idea of a relaxing day at the theater is watching a trashy chick flick with a few dozen screaming toddlers while trying to wrangle my kid.
Also, I keep reading this as 'bring your baby manatees' which sounds SO AWESOME. I'd go to that.
Re: The Bump has unleashed my worst nightmare.
Baby manatees!! Awwwww!
I thought the theatres have been doing this thing for a while. While it sounds like no fun at all to me, I can see the point of it.
I read it as manatees too.
I've known theatres to do this before. I think it's a good idea for parents who want to go see a movie and "need" to bring their child.
But is there an age limit? It's saying "babies", but what about my 3 year old? And like you - my kid isn't going to sit still through ANY movie, much less a chick-flick. I'm not going to be able to enjoy it...
I love this picture they are trying to create.

What? This is the dumbest idea ever.
And on a Tuesday at noon? I guess they are looking for a specific audience member, and working moms are not it.
I read it that way, too, and thought - AWESOME!
Then, I read it correctly and was very disappointed.
It sure is.
I want a baby mantatee!
I'm currently trying to convince H to let me have a hippo. He wont crack!

imoan, you HAVE to watch the episode of An Idiot Abroad 2 when he goes to South Africa. It's On Demand on the Nature and Knowledge one. Watch it with your H. It can only help your case.
Um... SEEN IT! In fact, as soon as they showed the episode, I knew that the hippo was Jessica (I had seen a special that included her and her owners on NatGeo a few months back)! See... this means I should CLEARLY own a hippo. Because I even recognized that that particular hippo was Jessica!

Has H seen it? He won't let you have a hippo after that!? And, yes, if you can identify specific hippos, you should clearly have a hippo. Never you mind the fact that Jessica is probably the only house hippo in the world.
For me, going to the movies is an escape. If I had a small child, I doubt that sitting in a room with a bunch of squirmy babies who don't want to be still or quiet would engender feelings of relaxation and escapism. If I wanted to deal with that, I'd work at a daycare instead of paying money for it.
Unless there was liquor. AMC doesn't serve liquor, do they?
I have next to no interest in taking a baby or toddler to a movie theater. Baby Fuss can't do anything for two minutes, never mind two hours.
So to that I'll just say, "OH, THE HUGE MANATEES!!"
BABY MANATEES!
Actually, I think it's a great idea. They're marketing it to the stay at home mom crowd who never ever get to see movies because they're always stuck at home, and then don't have a babysitter, or someone they trust to babysit.
Plus, the tuesday noon showing of The Vow probably isn't exactly hoppin' I'm guessing. In that respect, this may actually be somewhat brilliant.
I think it'd be nice to have the option in a lower stress environment. Of course, I work, so I couldn't partake anyway.
