I just got a brand new TV on Monday. 1st I love it because I got it for a steal on Amazon. I paid 386.06 euros (yep Amazon is so cool that it converts the dollar price into euros if you use euros so you don't have to pay bank fees).
It's a Philips 40" LED TV and it has built in internet/Wi-Fi. I am currently listening to local French radios from my house in Minnesota!
Re: I love Technology
Love technology and Amazon....although sometimes I wish there were a bit less of it mostly for the kids (in general) since a lot of them can't entertain themselves unless they are watching TV/ playing video games or surfing the internet while they are texting at the same time.
A friend of mine has a 10 y/o son who was playing on daddy's iPad and looking at very inappropriate websites. He found out about them from his friends who have smartphones with internet service and that is what they look at on the school bus.
My niece is 17 and has a cell phone without internet and her hours of use are restricted. She does not know how to talk to people on the phone because all she does is text. No doubt her horrible spelling can also be partially blamed on the texting. Her sister is 12 and hates that she won't get to have a phone or facebook for at least a couple of more years (yes, we are mean like that. They also don't get to watch TV on school nights).
I realize It is sort of hypocritical because DH and I are definitely iPad and cell phone junkies (but we don't text much and mostly call on the phone) but at least we grew up without all of that and learned how to function without having a cell phone at age 10. We also have jobs and pay for these toys ourselves.
Kids (and I know I am generalizing here) tend to have a sense of entitlement when it comes to a lot of these gadgets and unfortunately too many parents give into that and don't monitor their kids' use (again, I realize not all parents are like that but it seems like these parents are in the majority)
Well, I will get off my soapbox now....I hope you enjoy your TV! It is nice having much easier access to foreign language radio stations/ magazines etc without having to pay an arm and a leg. TV5 Monde is now available through dishnetwork (and maybe others....?). I would love to have that but with as little TV as we watch it seems a bit of a waste.
