Going from SAHM to Working = Weight Gain

I work at a desk for 5hours a day (No lunch), 5x per week.

I had no idea that going from being a SAHM of a active toddler to a desk job would cause a 8lbs. weight gain in a month!  I'm so disappointment with myself right now, I don't feel sexy, I don't feel pretty...

I still fit into my size, but its just well, a little tighter.  Uncomfortable.  I don't want my husband to see me like this...so I put on a good face and waddle my chunky butt to the bathroom to take off my clothes.  Right now I wish only darkness is in our bedroom...so he doesn't see me. :(

/sad puppy vent over!

Tomorrow I am going back to the gym, and making it a priority again to eat right.  Will it be harder due to time constraints?  Heck Yes!  My time is so limited now, but if I don't fix this now, when will I?  Ya know?  This is going to be a lot harder I imagine, but hopefully we will see good results.

Has anyone else fallen off the wagon?

Re: Going from SAHM to Working = Weight Gain

  • Don't be so hard on yourself, that is a huge change to make in your life style.  Suddenly your entire schedule changed, it stands to reason that you are going to find differences in your SAHM diet and working outside of the home mom diet.  As for time restraints...no doubt about it.

The important thing is that you realize it, and are getting back to what you know you need to do.

As for you husband...I would be willing to bet he won't even notice, nor would he care.  My DH has seen me from the best to the worst and back to pretty ok, and never has he told me to please turn the lights off.

Give yourself a little time to get into the routine of working outside of the home.  Good for you for getting back into the swing of things and not just opening a tub of ice cream!

  • I agree with PP.  You just need time to adjust to the lifestyle change.  If it helps, I usually work 10 hours a day, 5 days a week, and I actually think I eat less on days I work than on days I don't (ie. the weekends, federal holidays, etc).  I think once you establish a routine for work and your life that gets your eating and gym routine down, you're just a couple of weeks away from back to normal.

  • I went from a more active job with exercise opportunity during lunch to a completely sedentary desk job. I was like you, stayed the same clothing size but really filled out the size. I was feeling flabby and unatteactive. DH walked in on me changing and his eyes bugged out in a good way and he said I looked so good. I was embarrassed when I realized he caught me in the buff when I felt gross, but his instant sexy reaction (seriously, no hesitation so I believe him) made me feel good.

So let YH see you in the buff and let him have a squeeze of your womanly curves. I still am working out, but now I know it is so I feel strong and healthy, and that DH appreciates me anyway.
