Re: non-clicky poll: sunscreen

  • I like the banana boat continuous spray, but I will say it's not the most economical choice because it goes really fast..  My next favorite is the Neutrogena dry touch - it's not greasy at all!
  • I use Neutrogena's face sunscreen/moisturizer (it's like 15 SPF, but I reapply it lots and lots) and then anything that is waterproof and 45+ SPF for the rest of my body.  Then I still try to hide out in the shade since I burn like a mofo.

  • I honestly find most all of them are the same - I use whatever is cheapest for my body (usually Banana Boat or Coppertone) and then I get special sunscreen for my face that's non-oily.

Always apply sunscreen 15-30 minutes prior to going out in the sun (so that it has time to soak in) and then always reapply after coming out of the ocean / pool (towel off first so that it doesn't get all watered down).  "Waterproof" sunscreen tends to wash off within 30-45 minutes of getting in the water (I think they're actually going to make the sunscreen companies stop labeling that way because it is misleading).  In general, you should reapply every 2-3 hours, even if you stay out of the water, because if you're in the sun you're sweating.

And even if it's cloudy out, you should still apply sunscreen!  I have gotten some miserable burns when it's cloudy!

  • There was a sunscreen years ago that I had bought and sent to H when he was deployed and it was one that went on and dried instantly. I think it was a sport kind though as it had a protection against coming off with sweat (which was handy for H at the the lol). I don't remember what it's called but it was awesome and wasn't greasy which was a huge plus also.
