would you sub sauvignon blanc or chicken broth for sake?

those are my options. I didn't want to buy a $10 bottle of sake to use 1/4 cup or something for my recipe b/c I read that you should drink it w/in a few days & MH doesn't drink sake and I was not going to drink the bottle by myself sooooo...I looked up subs & the only 2 I've got are white wine- sauvignon blanc and chicken broth.

thoughts?

  • White wine would be fine. I like to keep a bottle of Vermouth on hand for instances like this. It's shelf stable once opened, and keeps a long time!

  • what's the recipe?

I'd choose the wine over chicken broth.

or I know in my store we can find smaller bottles of sake, which are cheaper than a full bottle ...

  • Thanks all, I was thinking the wine too. I was only going to trader joe's today & they only had one bottle (and a small one of sparkling but that didnt seem right). the recipe is for something called "shogayaki chicken"- sake, soy, mirin/rice wine vin, garlic, sesame oil, ginger...
