S/O Chivalry: Life is in danger women and children first
DH and I was watching Titanic the other day and he was commenting about the rule of women and children first. He said that maybe back then that rule applied but now he does not see a point of letting women go before men when their lives are at risk. I was completely taken back by this. He agreed children should be saved first but when it came to women and men they should be equal. I guess that makes sense but I kept saying, "But that is the rule" and he would say why. Why is THAT the rule now? Then he said, "So Kyle and you are on a raft and you would want some other random women to be saved over me?"
So do you think women and children should be saved first or is it now children and then every person for themselves?

I guess growing up, it was always women and children first.
If it was everyone for themselves, it would be chaos. You need rules to keep things in order. Although I would be sad that DH isn't next to me on the raft, I would probably be disappointed if he sholved a woman, who was trying to get to her child, out of the way to get in the boat.
With that said, I know that if I was working and there was a fire in the building, most of the men would make sure the women are safe.
