Military Nesties
Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.

Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

Update on the like buttons and such..

Copied from MM here.

"Hi ---------,

Thank you so much for your feedback about our site updates. We want to let
you know that we have heard your suggestions and will be removing the
Twitter and Facebook share options from the local message boards as soon as
we can. We will also not be including these options in the new message
boards going forward. The updated changes should occur by next week. Thank
you for taking the time to reach out to us about this.

Please let me know if you would still like your account deleted and I can
assist you with this.

Have a nice day!

-Bump Kathleen"

I'm happy they decided against it.

ETA: Though, I wouldn't mind a like button on the post that would only show up here.

  • I am stunned that they actually listened.
  • They must have been flooded by emails about it, plus the complaints on the boards alone.  I am also shocked that they listened, but they are all about making money, and if posters leave they have no money to make.

I also would appreciate a "like" button that just lets you see it on here, and doesn't link it to any other site.  But I prefer my privacy over the like button, so do what you gotta do site people.

I can't even believe they thought for 10 seconds this was a good idea.

I wonder if it had anything to do with being able to track user's habits outside of the boards.  Once they have your FB info they can do a lot with it.

    Ew.

Yet another reason that I kind of want to just get rid of FB.

    Blah.

Agreed.  Site redesigns always come with a fair amount of teeth gnashing and wailing.  This is the first time since I originally joined in 2003 that I can recall the management actually responding to user feedback about forum design problems.

It actually makes me wonder if people pointed out the issues with RL stalking and litigation that have actually happened over the years on the Knot/Nest without FB, and how the addition of FB would be sure to lead to more legal problems for the site.
