Hold on tight!

I know I keep talking about the weather and I hate to be dramatic but good God, I'm pretty nervous.

There have been multiple sightings of funnel clouds and FIVE tornados (edit: 5 tornado warnings but some have touched down) that have touched down in Indiana and heading for my hometown in western KY where my friends and family are.  My BFF is texting me and freaking out.  She says everything is cutting out so she can't get updates.

In a couple of hours it will be here.  DH has a 2 hour drive from another city (in the direction of the tornado sightings) and doesn't know if he'll make it home before it hits.

There are storm chasers spread out across the state which isn't too comforting.

This morning there was a severe thunderstorm and it was 50 degrees.  Then it temporarily flooded.  Now it's sunny, 70 degrees, and eerily still.

Should I at least put on something nice so if I die I look cute?  lol.  I haven't even had a shower today, but I figured if I'm found in rubble it won't matter anyway.

Re: Hold on tight!

  • do you have somewhere safe to be in your house

    I would be freaking out

    I hope yourDH is safe

  • KDuv, you are not being dramatic at all!  I'm nervous for you too!  That is some freaky weather.  Stay safe, and try to stay calm.

::safety vibes for KDuv and Mr. KDuv::

    P.S.  I wouldn't bother showering.  ;)

  • I wish we had a basement, but we don't. We live in an apartment building.

It's set up like a townhome where we have 2 floors.  The safest place I can think of is the half-bathroom downstairs.

Right now everything is calm here.  They're expecting it to hit here in a couple of hours.  I just really hope DH makes it home in time so I know where he is.

  • I don't think you are being dramatic, I swear the next time the sirens go off here, I am going to the closet in the safest part of our house.
  • He's in his cruiser so I told him to screw everyone and everything else and drive lights and sirens to get home in time.

    lol

    I'm a bad cop wife.

  • No way! You keep those sweats on. Nobody wants to be all dressed up in a storm! Matt's bright idea for the storm is for me to cram my fat, waddling butt into a closet with my dog if it looks bad, which I guess is my only option but If I sit on the floor for a long time at this point, I'll never get up!

Keep us updated though, so we'll know you're ok!

  • I don't care how often this happens, it's always nerve-wracking and gets your adrenaline going so just stay calm and safe!!

If you see a funnel, will you take a pic before you run for cover? Kthx.

  • Do you have a weather radio? When one came through town a couple of weeks ago, our satellite went out and although we had internet it was still difficult to track because everything was happening so fast... I was really wishing we had a weather radio.

Yes In the shower/tub is the best. Make sure you take a comforter in with you in case it gets really bad and cover up with it. Kind of sit on the corners and make a little blanket bubble out of yourself.

Stay safe, Nique!  I just saw your reply in my thread below about living near Indianapolis and being in the midst of it all.  I hope it passes you soon and keep us updated!  I know you said you have a GF in Louisville -- I live about an hour and a half southeast from Louisville (20 minutes from Lexington if you know where that is).

This has crossed my mind a few times.  My new DSLR arrived a few days ago just in time, and it has an action setting.  lol

I do know where that is, you are about 2.5 - 3 hours from me.  I hope it passes soon too, but they are saying round 3 is coming after it.  You stay safe!

  • Missus -- Yes, I actually do have a weather radio!  Our property manager gave us one and it's very helpful in times like this.

Ala -- We don't have a tub in the bathroom downstairs, but I definitely intend on taking a comforter in there with me if the sirens go off.

    Ditto this!

Stay safe, I really hope your H gets back before if hits.  I know that eerie feeling, we hunkered down for Ike in a tiny 1 bedroom apt and it got super scary.  I hope you area gets spared of the worst & it blows over quickly!   That sux.

  • Wow, keep us posted and stay safe!
  • The same pattern here: storms, warmth/sunshine, now grey and still with dropping temps. Stay safe!

  • You're not dramatic at all, I hope it doesn't get too bad. Weather like that is crazy scary, and I hope your H gets home before it gets too stormy! I totally agree, he should flip on those lights and sirens, and get on home! Even without a tub in your downstairs bathroom, I ditto the comforter and hunkering down in the corner.

Keep us updated so we know you're safe! --That goes to everyone in the area, I hope it passes quickly for y'all!--

  • Please keep us informed that you're ok!  Also, thank you for posting that.  I now know that I should call my mom tonight to make sure she's ok, too.  She's in Jeffersonville, IN, right across the river from Louiseville.

  • SLouWE, you mom isn't too far from me.  We're sitting at a 9 which is off the charts.  I'm afraid to know what that means, haha.

  • DH is home!  I'm relieved.  He made it just in time because it's here.

  • We've had funnel cloud after funnel cloud pass over us and tornadoes in the surrounding areas.  Siren after siren.

I saw rotation out my back door right before it was reported as a funnel cloud.  I took a pic, but a tree was blocking the view.

It just got dark and there has been crazy lightning and there's softball sized hail (!) in some areas, but we've only had marble sized here so far.  It's times like this that I'm glad we have good insurance on our car!

We have another round of tornadic storms coming through within the next 30 minutes.

I hope everyone else is ok.  I've heard there has been some damage in some areas.

I'm glad you're still ok!  After the next round passes, check in again.  I called my mom a little bit ago and she's ok, too.  She said that a couple of storm chasers actually came into the bank she works at to hide out with them for a few minutes.  Unfortunately, their vault there is too small to hide people in.  LOL

Lol!  That's neat, but I'd be extra nervous if the storm chasers are running for cover too!  I'm glad your mom is ok also.  My family is spread out in different cities and everyone is fine other than wind damage in their neighborhoods.

I think we're in the clear now.

It has been a crazy day.  I'm sure it's not the last of it either since storm season is just beginning.  Thanks for putting up with all my anxiety, lol.

I haven't seen Nique, Stellar, and Conrad post and haven't heard much about their areas so I hope they're all ok!
