Does anyone know of a green Swiffer-like floor cleaner?

I've been using terry cloth covers on a Quickie Mop, but just wondering if something like that exists.

Thanks!

Re: Does anyone know of a green Swiffer-like floor cleaner?

  • If you search for Swiffer on Etsy there are many options for mop covers that are washable/reusable.  Or like PP posted, you could use washcloths.  However, I would not use Mr. Clean, like posted in PP's link.  I would use vinegar and water.

  • Norwex has a great one.  I have the dry mop and the wet one.  I have had it for years now and I love it.  Check out the rest of their products too.  The glass cleaning cloth is amazing, you just use hot water and ring it out really well.  No streaks:)

  • I use microfiber washclothes (from $1 at like Target, Joann Fabric, etc) on my swiffer dry......for wet, I d the same thing but spray the floor with water+vinegar from a spray bottle first.

  • I keep meaning to get a Swiffer and just use eco-friendly cleaner in it. Is there anything wrong with that?

You have to buy the swiffer cleaners for the mop. You can't open the bottle and refill it. You have to buy an all new, swiffer only bottle of cleaner.
There's no way to cut an opening in the top and refill with your own cleaner?

I use a steam mop.  Is that an option for you?

  • I have a rubbermaid reveal mop.  It's nice that the cloth is washable and I can refill the container with my own solution, but the pump mechanism is tiring after a few sprays.

I think I'll upgrade to a steam mop once I get frustrated and toss the mop out the window.

  • I use the Libman spray mop which is like the Swiffer Wet Jet except that you can refill your own fluid easily (apparently there is a way to hack the Swiffer but I couldn't get it open).  They also (only) sell reusable pads for it so I use those and some reusable ones I bought on Etsy for my original Swiffer.   Also, the spray is a manual trigger instead of batteries so you don't have that issue. http://www.libman.com/freedom-mop.aspx

  • I have a swiffer wetjet. I use a reusable microfiber cloth and I just read a tutorial on how to get the cap off the wetjet solution so it is refillable. You just supbmerge the cap in nearly boiling water for 60-90 seconds, twist it off with a towel. Nip off the plastic anchors using a nail clipper and then refill and put the cap back on. I am doing this today! I bought the microfiber towel in the cleaning section at walmart. It was made for a o ceder mop, but it fits my wetjet perfectly!

  • We use the Rubbermaid reveal as well, can wash the cloth and use your own cleaner (we just use water and vinegar). I used to use a swiffer and there are directions on the internet for making your own re-useable cloth covers. Its very simple and effective.

You can open the bottle cap. I googled how to open a swiffer bottle or something like that and found a few  youtube videos. I was tired of spending over $5 on cleaner and I prefer vinegar and water mix anyhow. There are two ways to do it.

    1. Boil a pan of water and let the cap sit in that for a minute or so and undo the lid with a towel.

2.If your faucet water is hot enough you can just run it underneath the hot water for about a minute and take it off with a towel.

It is so much cheaper and I feel better about my LO crawling on the floor.
