Does anyone give their pet Prevacox?

My vet is switching Laddie to Prevacox due to the fact Deramaxx is no longer being produced & he needs an alternative. Rimadyl gave him horrible side effects (excessive thirst, peeing) so I am hoping this will work as well as the Dermaxx. I am giving him half a 227mg a pill each day (113.5mg) and today was his 2nd day. Any experience with this drug is appreciated, thanks!

  • Wow, I just came on to ask this same question! My vet just started my 12 year old pug on Previcox on Wednesday. He just had his 3rd dose today. So far so good. He seems to be a little more comfortable, but is still struggling. I'm also giving him half a tablet a day.

Were you previously giving Deramaxx? Laddie (my 90lb collie) was on 75mg of Deramaxx a day. I'm wondering if the 1/2 pill of a Prevacox is not enough...especially if you were told to give the same amount for your pug! Laddie will be 11 next month (mobility issues).

  • No, this is our first arthritis med for him. But he literally weighs under 20lbs, so I would think that isn't enough for your dog but I don't know how it is dosed. My dog has alot of other underlying issues; cancer, anemia, dementia, and the arthritis... so this is like a last resort for us.

I'm so sorry you are going through this...I am guessing it is just to keep him somewhat pain-free and comfortable??? I had a foster once who had cancer, but he only got dementia when it got to his brain..

We have Laddie on the drug because he has arthritis.
