Pintuck duvet cover?

Do any of you have the pin tuck duvet cover from West Elm?  Or something similar?

I love the look of it but I am not sure how practical it is for us.  Some of the reviews suggest that it doesn't hold up well.   In addition, we have three cats that sleep on our bed throughout the day and between frequent washings and cat claws, I am not sure how long it would last for us..

Thoughts?

Re: Pintuck duvet cover?

  • I know when this question has been asked here people usually say they like it. But I have not had a good experience with it, and after less than 2 years, I'm replacing it. It hasn't held up at all- the pin tucks have ripped from the start with VERY little pulling. Its very pretty but I don't recommend it at all. I wish I would have gone with the parachute duvet cover!

  • I have it in seaspray and have used it on the master bed for about 5 months now.  We also have 2 cats and I do close the door to our bedroom when we sleep and during the day (they are quite active at night and they have 2 whole floors plus a finished basement to run around in!)

It's held up well so far, I've washed it twice on delicate and also dried it on delicate with no issue.  I try not to yank the cover when pulling it up as I have heard a couple little "rips" before but can't tell visibly if anything happened.  If I get 3 years out of it, I'll be happy.  It wasn't terribly expensive that it can't ever be replaced and it seems WE has made it a part of their permanent line.

  • I have it in Cactus (discontinued color) and have had it on my bed since August at least. For me, it washes and dries with no issues, I have 2 cats that sleep on it during the day (we kick them out at night). like PP said, I hear little rips every now and then when I am making the bed, but nothing noticeable.  I have been really happy with it.

  • I have it in Flax (a discontinued color). I love the look and when I used it for 2 months I heard a few rips but when I looked for them I couldn't find them. I replaced it with the West Elm Mosaic Tile Duvet, that I love as well.

I have not used it again because I have not washed it yet. My question is do I need to get the Pintuck Duvet dry cleaned or can I wash it? If I can wash it does it do better in a front load or regular washing machine?

I have a front loader and it did fine...no experience with top loader, sorry!

Did you wash it in a front or top load washer?

I second this.  I have had mine for about a year and I'm already thinking about replacing it.  The pillow cases are fine, but the duvet has ripped in so many placed it doesn't look pintucked any longer.

  • I bought the shams and they have held up well.  If I want that total look I'll buy the pintuck set from Target, their colors are so pretty!
  • Hi,

I bought a purple one at Kohls since at the time West Elm did not have them.  I originally saw the pintucked style at Z-gallerie in a turquoise color and a much softer material.  That's the one I wanted, and I thought the others were the same.  I was disappointe in the material as it's not that soft.

Last night I had problems sleeping and felt that the cotton was not soft enough to sleep with.  I have not washed it though and could probably soften it, but I'm not sure I know how to wash it right such that the pintuck wrinkles stay and all others are smooth.  I thought of bringing it to a professional.

When I make my bad, I have a dark purple pintucked over an amethyst pintucked which looks very nice and I decided to keep the bed made and use another comforter that is so, so soft for sleeping (even tho it doesn't match my bedroom) and I forgot where I even got it from.

What I do is tuck in both the amythest and purple comforters in the side of my box bed.  They hold fine and visually looks very nice & use them in this way as long as it lasts.  Meanwhile, I'll be hoping that Z-gallerie comes up with a purple color as it used to have.  At least it's softer and I can use it as a cover as well.

I'm not 100% happy with mine to actually "use" but as a visual decor thing - it looks great.
