When you were an instructor for the other gyms, did you work for the gyms or were you technically a contractor?

Thanks

My mom and I are thinking about teaching Zumba together - she's already an instructor, I am not. She would be fine being able to quit her job and be fine, I, on the other hand, would need insurance and benefits from somewhere

Re: ~Ang~

  • Both!  One gym I was an employee and the other I was a 1099 contractor.  It all depends on where you teach.
  • That's encouraging!

I really want to do it, but I fear leaving the security here.

But I'm really starting to not like it here. I'm bored more often than not, and unmotivated to find something to do

So this would be a full-time gig for you?  From my experience in the biz (almost 10 yrs), it is an ever-changing world, so nothing is guaranteed in this industry.  I wish you all the best in whatever you decide though.

I was thinking "group exercises" as a full time thing. nothing specific.. Zumba for now, but flexible for what the next craze may be

Because certifications/renewals and other expenses, it usually isn't a very good money making profession.  Unless you got into personal training or something, don't expect to be able to live off of it.

I hope this isn't offensive, just trying to be honest with ya!

  • Not offensive at all - this was the kind of information I was looking for.

    Thanks for your help!
