Blogging non-original recipes?

I want to make sure no one's going to accuse me of plagiarizing recipes that I blog.  If a recipe is from a family member or friend, I mention that in my post, and if it comes from another food blog I give them credit and link to the original blog with the recipe.  I even say how I came across the recipe (Google, Pinterest, etc).  Is there anything else I should do to cover myself?

I just don't want anyone getting mad at me for blogging about a recipe I found online (which I know has been a touchy subject on this board).

  • It sounds like you're doing the right thing. :)
  • Sounds like you've got it.

  • you're doing it right. Although, recently I've come across some blogs that request you link to them for the recipe instead. You should check each blog to make sure what their own rules are.

See, this bothers me. I hate that Tuesdays with Dorie is like that (you can't put the recipe in your blog post, even if you cite it properly). I hate having to hunt through the post for the link and then click over just to find the recipe. Unless it was someone's original recipe I'd balk at doing this and if it was their original recipe I might even consider NOT blogging it just for the annoyance factor.

Although I participated in TWD and had to follow that rule, I'm not a fan of it, either.  What if the person takes their blog down?  If I had done this with all the katie#s recipes that I posted, I'd have a lot of useless posts right now.

This has happened with a bunch of TWD recipes, and it's super annoying. I understand the reason for the rule, but I never liked following it.

Great point! I used to just link to the blog I got the recipe from and some of my older posts go to broken URLs. Really, really annoying when I want to revisit an old recipe and no longer have access to it.

    that makes total sense!

I found Cake Man Raven's actual red velvet recipe from his site and linked to it, as well as printed it and blogged about it. He's since taken the recipe down, but I didn't remove the link. Maybe he'll put it up again...

Ugh.  guess I should sit down one day and figure out which ones are gone so I can write them in.  Angry
