So my friends husband left their 20 month old son alone with the dog and the child got bit. Thankfully it did not break the skin but of course now he wants to get rid of the dog. Grrr I went on about not leaving children alone with dogs and how dogs see little kids as scary and that what the dog did does not make it aggressive. Of course others chimed in with what about next time? Will it be a worse bit? And of course of the dog is aggressive and the child needs to come first. I sent tons of links and said my piece but I am all worked up. I hate that people will not educate themselves about dogs and how they act and see things.
Having said all that I am very thankful you all. I have learned so much here. I just wish other people would get educated! Grrr vent over
Re: "Aggressive" dog vent
I'm so sorry to hear about your friends 20 month old being bit! It's very scary, I can understand why the husband might want to get rid of the dog - but I hope he takes your advice/suggestions and at least tries to solve the issues that might have caused the bite first. Honestly, I think at LEAST 85% of the problem here was leaving the baby ALONE with the dog. Sheesh. Common sense! (Nothing against your friend or her H!)
And as for the part I put in bold - I totally agree! I never would have known 1/2 the stuff I know now if it wasn't for this board! I drive H nuts with all of my new info
I'm sorry, that must be very frustrating. I hope, if they rehome the dog, he finds owners that have a little more knowledge and understanding when it comes to animals.
It is so annoying. It is not hard to take one or the other with you when you leave the room.
honestly, I'd be PISSED if the dog bit DS. But I'd also be pissed if he bit her!
Neither of them would go anywhere though.
Maybe if she didn't leave the dog and the child alone together, there may not be a "next time."
