Homemade fruit roll-ups?

Has anyone done this at home before? 

I saw a recipe on Pinterest for DIY fruit roll-ups made in your oven from various fruit purees and thought it looked good.  I used strawberries and it was horrible.  Brittle, crunchy and a very odd, smoky flavor, like I'd left them in too long.  But then again, the middle was mushy and undercooked.  The lowest my oven goes to is 175 so I'm wondering if that might have been the problem.
