Whoever recommended Divergent
Mary or Brandie?
It was amazing. AMAZING. I *might* even like it a little better than Hunger Games. Anxiously awaiting Insurgent May 1.
Any other recommendations?
Re: Whoever recommended Divergent
Also I thought it was ironic when I just clicked on FB this was the top story in my news feed.
It is?!?
Kindle keeps recommending Delirium to me, but I haven't heard much about it. Anyone read it? Good?
Should have added that I was kidding. I just can't beleive they're almost 1.
This makes me excited! They're making a movie too, but imdb says it comes out in 2015. Blah.
I think I liked Div better than HG because I felt more in tune with Tris. If that makes sense. I felt more "with her" than I did with Katniss. Maybe its because I *just* read it though. LOTS of similarities.
Is it YA lit?
I really enjoyed the first hunger games book and read it in a day. The others got too predictable. I'd like to pick up another good read, but I need something a little meatier than YA.
No doubt. Fastest year of my life!
I don't know what YA is.
I finished HG 1 in like 12 hours. I agree the others slowed and got a bit boring/predictable.
I think its a little more rich, but like I said above, its pretty similar in style and content.
Young Adult or Young Author. I can't remember.
Yeah it's YA. But I think it's a YA that appeals to all ages, like Hunger Games and Twilight.
YA really just means that the main characters are teens, I think 13-18. Then there are supposed to be other limitations like how much they can swear and what the characters can do, like sex. But for the most part the category just comes from the age of the characters.
Yay! I'm so glad you liked it! I cannot wait until Insurgent comes out. I recommended it to my neighbors too and they both loved it.
Question--which faction would you be? I'd choose Amity.
Twilight doesn't appeal to me in any way
I have nothing against YA, but it's not right for every reading mood. It's not just the age of the characters that sets it apart; it's not as complex or deep in the writing, even if it covers deep topics. Compare hunger games to game of thrones.
Have you read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy?
Totally Dauntless!
I have the hots for Four
Its a tad twilight-y, but not overly so and not in a bad way. I liked Twilight, but going back and reading them now I have no clue why I liked them. I don't like the movies at all.
I've never read Game of Thrones, so I can't compare.
Mmmmm hmmmm. Sexy to the max.
Aaaahgreed.
I dont know if it was me. I heard about it through some IRL friends. I think Mary is the one responsible for the MN talk.
I absolutely loved Tris. I love her vulnerability and how she does amazing things, though she is afraid. She made that book. Four was amazing too, oh man, I love that guy.
I am not sure if I quite agree with the "smart people are corrupt" sub-theme, but I still really enjoyed it. I can't wait for the next one.
