My cat ( a little over 1 year old) was in and out of the litter box every few minutes on monday. He would squat, but not go at all. I was worried about urinary obstruction, and DH called the vet. It was in the evening, so they told us to go to the emergency vet. They did a bladder scan and it showed no urine in the bladder, so they said it was not a urinary obstruction.
They gave him some fluids and tried to get him to pee, but after sitting there for 4 hours, he didn't go. DH opted to bring him home. They said it was most likely urethral spasms, gave him some pain meds and antibiotics, and sent him home.
He did pee in the litter box the next day.
He seems to be frequenting the litter box less often, but is still going in and not actually peeing sometimes. It seems like the pain meds help.
Has anyone had experience with this? How long should it take for him to get better?
Re: cat - urethral spasms?
Did they send the results to your regular vet? I would call the regular vet and see what they think your next steps should be.
Good luck!
