Help with my steak dinner

I picked up some steak from the meat shop, and I'm planning on cooking it tonight, but I'm looking for ideas on how to prepare it, and what sides to serve.

I bought a 0.45lb Beef Oyster Steak (chuck) not soaked or salted  (that's what the label says).

I'm thinking maybe making roasted brussels sprouts as a side, but I also have a sweet potato I can use.

  • I'd make both; roasted burssels sprouts and a baked sweet potato.  Yum!

  • I was thinking that, too.

But how should I prepare the steak?  I honestly don't even really know the best way to cook it!  I can't use butter or any other dairy items.

  • How do you like yours cooked?  medium? medium rare?  well done?  I'd grill it on high heat for a few minutes on each side.  I like mine medium, to medium rare though.  I would only season with a little S&P.

  • You could mix horseradish and panko and place it on top.  Not too much because it'll be really potent, but that way you'd get a nice crunch as well as the meatiness.

I love sweet potato puree with it.  You don't have to add milk, maybe a little honey and cinnamon, and puree it.

This sounds delicious!  So just put the mix on top of the steak when I cook it?

I rarely make my own steak, that's why I'm at a loss!  I like it medium rare, though, for those who asked.

  • Well, I'd let it cook most of the way, and then place it on the top a few minutes before it is done.  If you leave it on the entire time, it may get burned.
