I want to thank you ladies for your help and concern about getting counseling. I am going to start doing that soon. I do realize now that I have been a huge beebee for drama and my life. I am sorry for that. I have been having a really hard time keeping my anxiety and other issues in control after stopping my meds and previous counseling. I just want you lovely ladies to know I am not usually a nut case and I hope very soon I will be back to myself. I have learned that my humor and personality is a hard pill to swallow for a lot of people and I hope that I can make a better impression on you guys in later days
Re: Thank you
If it helps at all, I know our base here has a self-referred counselling office. You show up, fill out a (computer based) questionnaire, meet with a counsellor, and go from there. Here it was called FAME (can't remember the acronym anymore, but it started with family), though they just changed the name to some other acronym at the new year.
You might be able to call the Tricare appointment line and find out if something similar is also on your base. My PA mentioned it to me, and I'll admit, it took some serious effort to walk thru the door there. But, I am glad I did it.
Counselors are professionals that are training in helping you work thru issues, even if they do not have personal experience with them. They will be able to help.
You need to find the right counselor that you are comfortable with. If you aren't comfortable then it won't work for you as you won't open up to them. Try different ones if you don't like the one you start with. Until you are comfortable enough with your counselor to where you are okay sharing your history and problems you won't ever get to the bottom of it and get the help you need.
This.
I thought that I was going to get nowhere with my counselor, but she turned out to be the exact person I needed. It was helpful that she didn't have the same issues that I did.
I know it's scary, but don't hold back any longer. Don't you deserve to be happy for yourself and no one else?
