NY Boilermaker

I'm running this race this summer with my BIL in July. Tomorrow is my birthday. Two unrelated events, right?

Wrong!

I just got the official Boilermaker sweatshirt in the mail with just a note that says "Thank you!" (The return address is the Boilermaker Road Race. I'm guessing my MIL ordered it, asked them to include a card, and then had it shipped to me.) It's a really nice sweatshirt. Guess I really have to run this race, now.

  • YEAH!  Welcome to the Boilermaker family!  This is my 3rd year running it and I will keep running it until I'm too old to run.  It is an AWESOME race!

Are you local?  Otherwise, make sure you start looking for a place to stay now.  Hotels are probably already sold out.  I'm camping :)

Yes, there are a lot of hills, but it goes by fast and there is literally crowd support along the entire 15km race route.  The last mile is mostly down hill and there is (free) cold beer waiting for you at the finish line!

Thanks! I am not local (we live in downstate NY), but DH is from upstate (Syracuse area) and his family has a place on a lake about an hour outside of Utica, so we'll be staying there for the weekend.

I don't drink beer. Although, after running 9 miles, I'll probably be happy for anything fizzy and refreshing.

I wasn't a beer drinker the first year I ran, but the beer sure beat the other post race food (bagged deli meat sandwich with chips and a piece of fruit).  It is fizzy and refreshing!

You'll be thankful for the lake to cool off in too.  The campground we stay at has a lazy river and it's fabulous after being hot and sweaty!

I'm sure it will! I'm excited, but scared. Right now, I've only run 6 miles once (a few weeks ago) and I'm sick, so my running this week is gonna suck (flu and sinus infection. ugh.) I gotta get back in the game and build up my mileage.
