Favorite crafting books?

I have a gift card to spend on amazon and would like to add to my crafting library. I thinking about a good sewing reference or maybe a sock book, but I never met a craft I didn't like. What are your go-to books?

To start off, I will say I have probably made more projects from Susan B. Anderson's Itty Bitty Toys than anything else and they have all been adorable. I would highly recommend it.

Re: Favorite crafting books?

  • I'm a craft book collector. ;)

I have all of Susan B. Anthony's Itty Bitty books- I love her hat one best. I also love Baby Beanies (by Amanda Keeys) for little hats, too. The X0 Baby Knits series are nice quick baby patterns- I know I have more knitting books, but, drawing a blank.

I have some fun crochet toys books- but, I hardly use them anymore- I think the one I used the most was Amigurumi Two! Crochet for Me and You and Baby, Too! (Ana Paula Rimoli- who commented on my blog once and made me all gushy :) and Amigurumi: Super Happy Cute Crochet (Elisabeth A. Doherty- one of the FIRST English Amigurumi books and still awesome :). I have Baby Blueprint Crochet (Chachula) and Little Crochet (Permann) but haven't made anything from them yet- my little girl is almost too big, and sewing is just soooo much faster.

My favorite sewing books are all kids stuff, too. Sewing Clothes Kids Love (Fabrenmix/Studio Tantrum) is probably my most used- but, Little Girls, Big Style (Abreu) gets a lot of use now that my daughter is big enough for the patterns. I just got the brand new Modkids book (all knit fabric projects for girls) and I already know it will be a favorite, too- first projects are cut and ready to be sewn. I have a bunch more- I need to make a list one day.

I also love the Wee Wonderfuls toy book and the Oliver + S book.

I have a long list of complaints now, with regard to craft/pattern books- sh!tty pattern sheets, not labeling pattern sheets, not including sizes available in the book, leaving out entire pattern pieces (a really ridiculous editing error, IMO)- I am so picky. I sent back a copy of Girl's World (Paganelli) in part because the pattern sheets weren't labelled on the fold- I am SO not going to unfold 10 giant pages to find the pattern pieces I need! I can't believe that book gets such good reviews- I guess the projects are nicely photographed, but, who has that kind of time or patience? To be fair, it was a clearly "damage" book (falsely sold as new), so maybe the pattern sheets are labeled in the current edition- but, seriously- boo.

  • I love the Big Bad-Ass Book of Crafts- there are some way off the wall and neat crafts in there.  It's way funky
