S/O Gas prices: What do you drive?
Re: S/O Gas prices: What do you drive?
I drive a 2009 Jeep Compass. Its one of the smaller jeeps, and I suppose my only complaint would be if it were slightly bigger. But I love it. And it held up pretty well in my accident yesterday. Sadly, the damage is still $2000. Thank goodness for insurance!
H drives a 2001 GMC Yukon XL. Its a gas hog and makes a good dent in our finances to fill up from empty (which is why we don't let it get that low very often.) But it does well here is the north in the winter, and I love it.
The most beautiful place on earth to me: Glacier NP

I'm with BLT. I've had 3 Jeeps and all have held up really well and lasted a long time. I'd like to always have one.

I have a 2009 Nissan Versa that I love. I love that it's small and gets 35 mpg.
DH drives a 2008 GMC Envoy, which he loves. It's to big for my taste, but we need a car we can fit the dogs in and use to tow a trailer when we move.
I started driving on a regular Cherokee and loved it. As soon as I saw the newer Liberty style was just like the old Cherokee I fell in love with it and said instantly that I had to have it. I'm definitely a Jeep person, and haven't had any problems with mine so far (or my lease). But I also have a history of only keeping cars for like 2-3 years so before any big problems would happen.
H drives a 2011 Dodge Ram. It has a hemi so we get about 15-16, but actually does decent on long trips. I love it. It's one of the base models, but he loves it.
He also has a WRX motorcycle (duel sport) to drive to and from work. It gets like 73 mpg.
I have a 2012 Mazda3. We got an awesome deal on it I love it. I do wish we would have looked at the Mazda6s or the Kia Optimas, but I still love my little car.
They actually put some thought into it instead of just changing the spark plugs this time. We want to punch the mechanic still though. Thankfully it's all under warranty. Morons.
Truth. Except for my mechanic back in my hometown. I miss him. I guess H is good too though. Hey, you should drive down when you come see me. We can make H take your car around and make sure its not making any weird noises
DH drives an 02 Nissan Sentra in the winter and a Harley in the warmer months. Both get decent mileage and while the Nissan has seen better days it's paid off and runs fine so we will keep it until it dies.
I drive an 88 BMW 325i convertible. It gets OK gas mileage but I got it because I have always loved them and found a steal on a super nice one. I traded my 11 Honda Element because it was bad on my back and my wallet and I really wasn't in love with it. Plus we had put so much money into we got a payout that almost covered my BMW getting rid of our debt.
We will eventually need to get something else for kids and dogs which will probably be a station wagon of some sort, probably an older Subaru.
Yup the back window motors keep breaking and when he took it into the shop the first time, they were like "is this in for the back window motors?". This is a well-known problem with the liberty but they never corrected the part so they broke 4 or 5 times before we found a youtube video about using zip-ties to hold up the windows. It's pretty ghetto but what else are we supposed to do when we keep paying $350 every 6 months only for them to replace it with the SAME faulty part?It gets TERRIBLE gas mileage. The windshield is itty bitty and and there is virtually no dash board so it really makes me question the safety. The air vents have broken so when you push the thing back and forth, they don't actually move. Recently, DH's seat belt broke and the button remains pushed in so his seat belt won't buckle. Obviously that's a HUGE problem but he's managed to find a way to use his keys to get it back out. He has do that every single time he drives his car. His sister has a newer Jeep Liberty (I can't remember what year) and I know she's had some problems too but I can't remember what they were. We will NEVER buy a Jeep again. The thing is a giant POS and that company replaces faulty parts with the exact same parts and never fixes the problem. I would never recommend a Jeep to anyone that I actually liked!
Photo bomb, yeah!
Thanks to shesadream, I no longer have the oldest cars on the board
We've been overseas so much there's no reason for us to get newer cars. I'm sure I'll have to sell for a shitty return, just like I did with my 2005 forester that I bought new. When you think you'll only have your car 3 years it doesn't really make sense to invest much.
Although, I have to admit, I've wanted a different car than my outback which I've had 3 years, and will keep until we PCS 2+ years from now, when I didn't think I'd have it more than 2. But how can you buy a newer car when you think you might only have 2 years left and the car still functions?
ETA I had a 95 Jeep grand cherokee. It was a gift from my parents, midway through college, since they were ready to sell the POS (back in 2000). I kept it until a year after graduation when I nearly nearly died multiple times for its terrible snow performance. I sold it to another hapless college student.
