I can't quite figure out what I want to make for dinner tomorrow.

I have the day off from work.

I have a bottle of Barolo I want to drink. It's from TJ's, so it wasn't crazy expensive or anything, but still, I'm excited about it.

It'll probably be one of our last chilly days here until next November.

I'm currently leaning toward truffle mac and cheese, roasted broccoli rabe, and steak with red wine pan sauce.

But I also kind of want to braise something. But I really want the mac and cheese, and most braised things go over some sort of carb.  So this is where I'm stuck.  Steak? Or braise?

Re: I can't quite figure out what I want to make for dinner tomorrow.

  • Although I totally saw a BU within the past month of a recipe, I believe from Disney of all places, for some sort of beefy thing served over mac and cheese.  I think it was Koko cooks??
  • You could make a braised short rib lasagna, like Josie posted? Sort of like braised + mac and cheese.

Otherwise, I'd go for the steak and mac and cheese. Mmm.

  • ooh Fine Cooking had an awesome article last issue about olive-oil braised vegetables. They had a recipe for carrots, leeks, and fennel (and maybe one more). Sounded really good. The leek one would go with your meal, I think!

Darn it, I've been ignoring all of my cooking magazines to read silly fiction!  That does sound good though.

ETA: Never mind, I looked it up, and I did read that article. All four recipes look awesome

Braised veggies, aren't you guys smart!

I strongly considered that, and I really want to make that recipe.  But, I am stuck on truffle mac and cheese right now.

  • When mac and cheese is a choice, mac and cheese will always win in my book, and when truffled-anything is a choice, truffled-anything will win in DH's book.  So, what time do you want us for dinner tomorrow??  Wink
