Just got my birthday present (to myself) in the mail
a 50 mm f/1.8 lens. Too bad I'm making a super unblogworthy dinner tonight!

I borrowed the kit lens from my BIL after I was already used to the 50mm. It's fine, but I like the 50mm so much more for food photos. Hopefully you're not too used to the zoom on the kit lens though, because I could see that being an annoying adjustment to make.
The 50mm is not great for outdoor shots though, because it's not very wide-angle.

This took a minute to get the hang of for me. My other two lenses are zoom.
This was me for a few weeks after I got this lens. Now I never take it off the camera! Enjoy.
