but I am so over the "I am having a baby so I can't keep my pets" crap.  I saw another FB post about someone who knows someone who is having a baby and can't keep the dog.

Will there be some adjustments for all of us? I'm sure.  But DH and I are committed to making it all work.  I can't imagine LO growing up in a house without pets.  I've had cats my whole life.

  • Omg I so agree. I had some random lady at work going on about how her daughter kept her dogs and she thought it was such a bad idea, but it turned out okay so I shouldn't worry. Uhhhhhh thanks?

  • I hated that shiz while I was pregnant. And the dumb comments and being laughed at because every time I brought something baby related into my house I let my dog give it a good sniff down and I'd explain to her it was for her new baby! Yup. People annoy the piss out of me. I was actually just kicked off a facebook board because i was trying to help someone not rehome their dog because of a baby!

  • I really loathe doing owner intakes where this is the reason... I did two with my daughter strapped to me in the moby when she was an infant. It always made them feel super uncomfortable having to fill out the forms and explain to me why the dog had to go/

There were some adjustments but there are also amazing memories for all involved. It didn't surprise anyone that one of her first words was "puppy."

Obviously the rest frustrates me too, but the bolded part also makes me sad. Animals have always been such a big part of my life, from the day I was born, and I would hate for my LO to grow up without them.  MH never had pets growing up and it was fun to see him fall in love with my cats. He never realized how much you can love an animal. Seeing how hard he took KittyCat's loss was proof to me that he "gets it" now.

My LO adores his cats and I'm so glad I was able to give him that.

  • I guess we're in the minority. We don't plan on having kids for a while, but I want my kids to grow up in a home where animals are important. And I think if you train your dogs well enough balancing them and a baby will be challenging, but not impossible.

I've seen tons of girls that are in college and spend hundreds on their cute little dogs, then try to sell them off a few weeks later b/c they're "too much work". I'm sorry but what did you expect? It's another life, not a damn furby!

But, OMG, you're 34 weeks! Not long to go! How are you feeling?

  • GRRRR!  So terrible.

In a similarly disturbing vein, someone seriously asked me if we'd take our dog back home with us when we move back to the States.  Seriously?!  Blows.my.mind!  I really do wonder about people!

Overall, I feel good, just really tired.  However, I've had sugar in my urine for the last couple of visits and had to do a repeat 1 hour glucose, which I failed.  So now I get to do another 3 hour.  Yuck.  How is your little man?

I have had quite a few people ask if we are keeping our cats.  Even people in our families! I could never get rid of them; 3 of the 5 we got because their owners were getting rid of them.  Only 2 were actually adopted.

I totally could have written your post myself. Word. for. flipping word.

OP--I couldn't imagine giving up any of my boys when/if we have kids. That shiit just blows my mind.

    Good luck on the 3-hour!

BabyL is good overall. But, I think he's teething early, and has been a bit of a CrankyPants lately.

I feel like a bad mom saying this, but my mom is taking him overnight later this month while S/O takes me to a hockey game for my birthday, and I can't wait!

  • Have fun! I don't think it makes you a bad mom.  You still need to do stuff for you.

Hehe, I know. But over on my BMB, there are occasionally posts like "When will your LO sleep over at Grandma's?" and everyone responds with, "I couldn't bear to be away from my preshus for so long for at least two years!" and there I am, like, "In two weeks."

  • Bwahaa.  I don't know if I'd do it until I'm done nursing, but I don't think it would be 2 years!

Totally agree!!! This sort of topic drives me crazy...and I dont even have kids! I think growing up around pets is a good thing...I grew up around dogs and *gasp* turned out pretty damn fine! :-)

BTW...NalasMomma618, is that an IG in your signature? I have two...one is snuggled in my hoodie right now!!
