Vent... Darn decals.

This is a rediculous vent, but it's got me really frustrated today.

I made my _third_ attempt today to get a new set of decals for the car.  Third failure.  I can't drive on base without a temporary pass or decals.  The details for getting the decals have changed with every attempt.  First, the base didn't have any decals, so they gave me a temporary pass.  Then, the Welcome Center doesn't give out decals unless you show up at/after 5pm (?! makes no sense).  Then I went to a different office on base to register the car, and finally _now_ I'm told I need an emissions test for the car.

Gah!  So freaking frustrating!

I'm fed up with it, and I think I'm going to make DH deal with it.  This isn't the first time I've run into similar goose-chase type crap at this base, and it's beyond frustrating.  (I'm OK with the need to have the emissions test, and even to have the separate office on base being the one issuing the decals...  but, it would have been helped by some information about that at the welcome center the _first_ time I attempted to get decals, instead of just a sign saying they had no decals, implying they are a source for them when the base has decals to give out...)

  • I'd be pissed too.  I'm so glad we don't need decals on our base anymore.

  • I call that Welcome Center the "Un-Welcoming Center." They generally have bad attitudes and are kind of jerks!

Did the office you go to mention anything about a POA? M was deployed when I had to get new decals there and I can't remember if I had to have the POA. Just thought it might be another roadblock that you might want to prepare for.

I've let DH know I'm done dealing with it.  He can suck it up and find time to take care of it.  Or accept that I will never take the car on base, and will end up paying for a gym membership off-base.  I am really pissed off after today, and don't think I could be civil to the people working there even if I did try again.  (I do have a General POA that is pretty awesome for dealing with stuff, at least - the Finance Office at the last base let me use it, instead of a specific one for them...  A friend who is a notary drafted it up for us.  So if, somehow, my aggravation with this reduces to the point I could go and not make a scene, I'll remember to take that with me...  thank you for the heads up.)

  • I, too, am glad AF isn't doing decals any more.

Sadly, this is base by base.  Each base commander gets to decide if their base will use decals or not, as there is now no requirement from above that they must use them.

So, sadly, some bases will still have them.  Including joint bases that will have AF personnel at them.

Just so no one gets an ugly surprise after they PCS...

Thanks. I guess I was under the assumption that AF as a whole was phasing it out, interesting

  • I would be pissed and done, too.

You might consider dropping an ICE comment so that Garrison Command hears about this issue. It shouldn't be this difficult to get special stickers!

That's a good idea.  I just filed one.  After spending longer than it should have taken to locate the ICE site for this base.  (insult + injury)
