Dutch Oven Recommendations

Hi Ladies,

I'm a lurker on this board (love all the great recipe ideas!), and I'd like to purchase a dutch oven soon and start cooking a little more.  I think I'm going to go with Le Creuset, but I have no idea what size or shape to buy. Any recommendations? I definitely want it to be big enough for a pot roast or big batch of soup.

Re: Dutch Oven Recommendations

  • I'd go at least  the 9qt. The 13.25 is a good size but it is

pretty heavy. You might want to consider that.

  • You may also want to check out the Martha Stewart line at Macys. I use my MS DO constantly and I have been very happy with it. I think it was under $70.00.

The MS line was recalled by Macys-- I think she just rereleased a new version though. You are supposed to be able to bring in your old one and get a refund-- I have one at my parents house that I need to haul in at some point.

Wow...9 quarts sounds pretty big.  I cook pot roasts in my 5-quart Dutch oven, but I could see how a 7-quart would be handy.  Any bigger than that, I'd think you'd just want a lighter, taller stock pot.
