Ladies with PCOS, please come in
My sister was just diagnosed with PCOS. My understanding is that I should start trying to determine if I have this as well. Is that right? I'm on the BCP at the moment, but will be ending that as of a few weeks from now (not TTC, just trying to figure out what the heck my body does on its own). I need to wait a few months for things to get back to normal before going to the doctor, right?
Also, any suggestions or recommendations for my sister? She's already pretty on top of things, but I figure it can't hurt to ask.
TIA!

Re: Ladies with PCOS, please come in
my sister and i both have it. You could've looked at my sister and guess, just based upon her weight gain. We both found out while trying to conceive. She has managed to lose 70 lbs, once her hormones were regulated and was put on a strict diet....i did not have the typical physical symptoms...other than darker facial hair, but she and i chalked that up to being lebanese-guess not.
I was on bc for menstrual pains, and once i wanted to conceive, cycle never came back - never ovulated, ultrasound showed PCOS.
I don't have to be on meds like my sister; however, the 10 pounds i have been trying to lose forever, sticks like glue right in the tum and saddlebag area. So, i am now starting to eliminate the foods that they recommended for her....mainly breads and sugar (even the sugar in regular foods, there is a lot you're not aware of).
once you're off bc, after a month or two, if you are not getting your cycle, ask your dr for an ultrasound, that will be the fastest way of you knowing. Now, our other sister, she is totally fine.
