How do I use my Garmin inside?

So I cannot find in my manual how to use my garmin on the treadmill/bike trainer for heart rate and calories? I did google and came up with a bunch of passionate forums that were really technical.  I guess I am less tech-y than I thought!  I used it on the trainer yesterday and it was tracking my HR, but it didn't calculate my calories burned.  I am sure it is something simple and I am annoyed that I can't figure it out!

Re: How do I use my Garmin inside?

  • turn the GPS off, unless you have a cycling computer, flip it into training mode and just hit start.  It will track time and heart rate and calculate your calories based on that.  If you're doing it on a spinning bike that tracks your distance, you can go back later and manually enter your distance online.
  • Yes, just turn the GPS off.  If you have a foot pod, it will still calculate distance on the treadmill as well.  I usually attach mine to the handle on the treadmill instead of wearing it when I run inside.
