What is your favorite cookbook?

If you could only have one cookbook, what one would it be and why?

Mine would probably be the Good Housekeeping Cookbook that I have had for years and years.  It has a large variety of recipes and they are all illustrated, which I like.  I do not like cookbooks without or with few pictures.

Re: What is your favorite cookbook?

  • I'd probably pick something all-encompassing like the Cooks Illustrated Cookbook, or I really, really love The Art of Simple Food by Alice Waters.

  • My favorite cookbook is not the one i would choose if I could only have ONE (like, stranded on a desert island and need one book).

My favorite is probably Moosewood Cookbook.

My 'stranded on a desert island' would be Ratio.

ps. I wrote 'dessert' island first.

I would like to go to this dessert island.

My favorite cookbook is Cook's Illustrated's The New Best Recipe.

  • Ditto.  Cook's Illustrated's The New Best Recipe.

It has pretty much every recipe you could need and everything works.  But, few pictures.

  • Gwyneth Paltrow's cookbook, My Fathers Daughter. Its my go to cookbook. It has alot of basic recipes in it along with some fancy ones!
  • I love my dinners on a dime cookbook by taste of home.

  • My Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook -- yes, the red plaid binder-style one everyone's mother had -- and in specific, the edition my mother had, with meal planning tips and other things that are not in the newest version.  When I moved out, she found me a vintage copy and gave it to me as a housewarming gift.
