Procedures

Well I have EGD (upper GI where they put a camera down your throat) in early May. I have a Colonoscopy at the beginning of June. Has anyone had either? I have had the EGD done before, but not the colonoscopy. That is the one I am worried the most about. I admit I am kinda scared of that one.

Re: Procedures

  • Yes, I just had a colonoscopy done last month because of my lower GI issues.   May I ask why they are waiting so long for yours?  They wanted to do mine quickly since I was in some pain...

I am not going to lie and say it was a breeze, but you do what yo have to do to get answers, so...  luckily for me they didn't give me the RediCrap stuff that I had heard about, all my prep supplies came from the store and was OTC.  I got to choose what to mix with it, and I will say that I will not be drinking Orange Gatorade for a very long time now.  hah

Let me know what kind of questions you have.   The day before of prepping really was the worst part of it, they completely knock you out for the procedure and you wake up feeling fine as if nothing had happened.  At least that's how it was for me, except for being all groggy from the meds.   I didn't experience any soreness or weird feelings afterwards, I just remember being super hungry and the hubby had a milkshake ready for me when I woke up.

  • I have an EGD tomorrow to check for ulcers.  If they dont find any I will stop testing there and assume its the endometriosis that's causing my issues.  My gyn didnt seem to think it was but now I think she may have been wrong as the ultrasound didnt show anything that explains the issues I'm having.  Anyway, I'll let you know how the EGD was.  My mom and grandmother said they really arent to bad.  Can't speak for the colonoscopy.

Their schedule is quite busy and I have to work around my boss's schedule, etc. They say that I cannot come back to work after the procedure because I'll be so doped up. They scheduled the upper first to see if they find anything there abnormal. I have a hiatial hernia on my stomach and I have a problem with severe acid reflux and scaring of the throat. Then then want to do the lower part after that. My severe anemic is due to me losing blood slowly somewhere and they don't know where. That's why they want to do all of the tests. I almost feel like I am going to be a darn guinea pig.

  • Sheesh, that's a lot of stuff going on.  I am sorry to hear about all the issues and hope they can figure it out and fix you back up.

Just let me now if you have any questions regarding the colonoscopy when the time comes around.    KDuv had also had one done and she shared a few tips with me as well, so there should be a couple of us to offer some support when you get to that point.

    Good luck with it all!

All my supplies were OTC. I had to take dulcolax, miralax, and finished it off with magnesium citrate.  Seriously though, the actual procedure is a breeze. They put you to sleep with that twilight stuff, and then you wake up and you feel like you JUST went it.

Yeah, you can't go to work because you "can't make any legal decisions". I just went to my parent's house for a nice breakfast and slept.

  • I had a colonoscopy last year and agree with everyone else -- the procedure is fine, but the prep majorly sucks.  Definitely get some things that will make the process better like straws, something to mix with (has to be a light color and not red or purple), flushable wet wipes, and vaseline for your bum.

    Good luck!
