Tell me about Care Credit...

So, Penny's surgery is going to be around $1200. The vet suggested Care Credit and said that he *thinks* if you pay it off in a certain amount of time, there's no interest. Is that accurate? I'm looking at the website right now, but not really seeing anything.

Just trying to decide the easiest way to pay for this. She goes in on Wednesday.

Yes, that is my understanding too. DH used it for a dental thing before we were married, but it's so long ago, I can't remember what the interest-free period was (a year maybe???).

I'd probably call them to make sure, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be a better deal for you than using a regular CC.

Oh and I'm sorry. Big vet bills suck! :(

  • DH just looked into this recently because we were thinking Bella might have to have surgery.  I think he said you get 6 months interest-free.

I'm really sorry :(  I know you're worried about Penny and the big honkin' vet bill just adds insult to injury.

  • Thanks, guys. I finally found it--depending on your limit you get a certain number of months interest free, so we went ahead and applied/got approved. So yay for that. :)

Now we just have to get her better!

  • i used it for some dental work, and i believe i had 6 months interest free.

glad you were able to get approved :)

  • I have it.

When our cat was sick, we used it frequently. Each transaction has it's own date that it has to be paid off by for it to be interest free. As you are paying, it credits the balances due soonest before the balances that have longer to be interest free.

I think my transactions over $400 were 18 months interest free. The transactions under $100 were maybe 6months? I am trying to find an old statement with the dates/amounts, but cannot find one. I am on my last (largest) transaction. It is interest free until 12/12. It started on 6/11.

  • I have 6 months to pay off Lilly's surgery to get interest free.  I *think* the terms may be related to the deal the vet's office has with Care Credit b/c I"ve also heard of people having 18 months interest free.

This! I've used it 3 or 4 times and have never had to pay the interest (knock on wood). They're great about that. It's not like you pay off the highest amount first or anything. If you charge 600 now and 600 next month, then pay $300 in May, they will apply that payment to your first charge, so you get that one, which is "due" sooner, paid off sooner.

I've had my card for 4+years, so that may be why I've got longer interest rates.

I had a $474 transaction on6/4/11 and my promotional period (for this transaction)ends on 12/20/12.

I had smaller transactions that were due in 6 and 12 months.

  • I just utilized care credit for Pismo's knee surgery, if it is above $1000 then it is a year interest free! Pismo's surgy was $3k, so care credit was a savior for us!

  • FTR, i have two of them, one for me, one for the rescue.  and have used both liberally (mine for dentist, RE, and vet stuff).  The "months to pay off" is dependent on the organization that is charging it.
